Gaming at 1440p from 1080p - worth it??

Il just add my experience here too :)

I had the Ben Q 24 inch 1080p 144hz. Absolutely loved that monitor and I too was skeptical about upgrading.

Then I saw the dell s2716dg from £500 down to £389 on weekly offer and with all the good reviews about upgrading it was a no brainer and I took it.

Well the difference is litreully night and day! In fact it's even got me more into my games lately just adding that extra wow factor everytime I switch on the monitor.

When I came to selling my old BenQ monitor was the time I massively noticed the difference as the buyer wanted me to switch the monitor on and test it on a game, I took a massive step back and said to my self "wtf is this" - (obviously not out loud as I didn't want to put the buyer off ). :D

Regarding the TN and IPS I found that after tweaking a few settings the dell TN panel is not noticeably different from a IPS panel as the Dell ips panels are a huge improvement over the older tech tn models and therefore doesn't justify the extra £300 I would have paid for a IPS panel

Hope I have helped in some sort of way! :)

Tried looking around for a decent comparison and couldn't find much difference comparing images personally, but i came across this video on YT and there certainly is a difference, not huge but it does make things clearer. So a fairly big difference i suppose!

To truly see the difference you would need a 1440p display. If you view 1440p Youtube video on a 1080p display you only seeing 1080p :D

On a 27 inch screen the difference is huge. 1080p is washed out and pixellated while 1440p adds some nice real estate to desktop and a much sharper, detailed image. Watching vids online does not do it justice

I went from 1440p to 3440x1440p with Gsync and thats my sweet spot

Going from 1080p to 1440p, with all others things be the same, is not worth it.
Going from a non G-Sync monitor to a G-Sync monitor is worth it.
Therefore, going from a non G-Sync 1080p monitor to a 1440p G-Sync monitor is absolutely worth it.

Trust me, I've tried out all of these changes. I went from a 32 inch 1080p 60 hz TV to a 32 inch 1440p 60hz BenQ panel. Was unimpressed and returned the BenQ. Then I went to a Samsung 34 inch 3440x1440 ultrawide 60hz screen and loved it. Now I'm on a 3440x1440 100hz G-Sync monitor and have achieved gaming bliss.

All I need now is a 1080 Ti to max out its potential.

Good point about the screen sizes chaps. Anything 24" and under is good for 1080P (guessing) but over you start to see the pixels.

What about 1440p on a 1080p monitor via DSR/VSR. How does that compare?

I imagine IPS from TN will be a nice improvement.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

A lot of people have said DSR/VSR on 1080p is a massive jump in quality... but also it will show you if your current setup is man enough to handle 1440p.

I would be tempted to try DSR/VSR before splashing out.
