UK pricing, wtf?

ASUS Strix 1070 - $449 / £469
G1 Gaming 1070 - $460 / £429
MSI Gaming 1070 - $518 / £469
MSI ARMOR 1070 - $479 / £439

I could list them all day but it basically goes like that - and WTF at the Strix costing more £ than it does $? I've literally never seen that before. Don't get me wrong I know we always get shafted on pricing compared to other regions/countries but never this bad, in some cases we are nearly paying 50% more. I don't believe it's because we 'earn more' either as that is a myth, Americans earn on average $14,000 a year more than the average brit.

Oh and nobody say 'BREXIT' please, all of these prices are unaffected by BREXIT, that was only a temporary jump in pricing. It seems like companies just feel like fleecing us more than before.

thats why im waiting as just using the strix as an example. when you convert $ to £ and add 20% vat its still a £58 mark up on top.

Yep, cant wait to see the Titan @ £1300 and the 1080ti @ £1k as well

Sad thing is AMD is going to do exactly the same with their cards, i think little Vega will be around £500-£600 and the Big vega will probably be £700-£800..

Seriously you can buy a decent PC for the price the Titan will come in at

hence when i did the above i used todays £-$ at $1.31 and after vat theres still that £58 premium on top. :confused:

Why should no one say Brexit? No point just sticking your fingers in your ears so you can't hear what you don't want to hear. A large factor in the current prices is because the exchange rate has tanked because of the brexit vote.

Apart from the Strix ( but it is Asus...), most of those prices are around what they should be - ie dollar price x 1.3 + 20% VAT. :confused:

In fact some are slightly less.

Most of those american prices are without Vat as people tend to pay it on a per state basis, so online stores list their prices without Vat in most cases.

That will, however, leave a bit of a gap between Vega and the 480.

When a free trade deal emerges from the Brexit vote. and you can buy these cards at/close to the dollar rate..

then it will be worth it...

Yeah, what he said. The £ to $ has gone from 1.47-48 to 1.32 since 21st June.
Just on $500, that difference is £337 to £378, over 12% increase. Telling people to ignore that is daft.
People wanted Brexit ! Take the first consequence in the wallet.

The reason BREXIT is irrelivant is because these prices in £ are almost identical to what they were when prices were first announced way before the vote result and when people started browning their pants over BREXIT. Nothing to do with ostriching, just saying that BREXIT has had no effect on GPU prices, maybe the odd £5 here and there.

Never thought about US state taxes, I guess that would make a lot of sense, shame that being a small country = ridiculous VAT.

Even if you take the weaker pound into consideration price with VAT should be £409 for the first card.

Also the weaker pound has added at least 10% to GPU prices.

This is bobbins. They have gone up. You also have to remember that even before the vote the pound was deflated because of the risk. That is why the rate was low 1.40's for the months leading up to the vote and spiked to over 1.5 when everyone thought remain had one.

Almost all forecasters expected that if we voted remain, the rate would have gone back up to around or near 1.6 ( ie where it was floating around for ages before all the brexit nonsense).

I am sorry you don't like it, but the cold hard fact is, we are paying more for these cards in this country because the pound is trading around 1.3 instead of 1.6 ( which is primarily because of the referendum)

I personally refuse to be ripped off.

Plenty of others have so much more money than sense that they don't care less though.

I will quietly wait until I can get something that is a good upgrade on my 780 for what I consider a fair price

Dunno what you mean,sorry. The 1080 reference was announced around £620 and it's not now, but it's down to currency. If it costs an retailer like OCUK $500 to buy in a product, the cost now to them will be £41 higher than it was just before brexit which has to be passed onto the customer. Where you get your £5 from I do not know. Do the math.

In 2014 at the peak (when the pound was doing better), $500 was £294. At the current exchange rate its £378. So on currency alone, anything sourced from the States that cost us £294 in 2014 should be priced at £378 now!

Can someone find that site that archives changes in webpages please. No card has gone up by £40+, not even close. I've checked the 1070/1080 range out of curiosity for a while even though I own one. There was a brief period after BREXIT where for example the G1 Gaming went above £450 from £425 and then fell back to £429, other cards had this sort of pattern.

One thing that people are forgetting is that this happens at every GPU launch, the price parity is almost always 1$ = 1£ regardless of their being any kind of market differences or exchange rates.

So regardless of Brexit or not it has been like this for the past so many years now anyway.

People would be blaming Rip off Britain rather than Brexit if we had remained and the prices were still what they are now.

Why does it matter? If no card has gone up by £40 then good for us - it means they have't passed on all of the currency fluctuation to us. It doesnt need proving, you just need to do the math.

$500/ 1.48 = £???
$500 / 1.32 = £???
Note that currency rates change all the time, so it woudlnt have been a 1.48 for weeks, and probalby wont be at 1.32 for weeks either. But when a retailer buys, whatever the exchange rate is at that time they have to pay for.
