Summer Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

No problems dude, it's tough being an arsenal fan nowadays.

It's plain to see with our stupid high ticket prices, our board and hillbilly owner are just interested in milking us fans for the most they can. Whilst pretending to care about trophies.

I really hate saying this but Özil and Sanchez couldn't leave us sooner, 2 truly world class players surrounded by mediocrity.

Now all we have to look forward to is DM coming in here, writing 10 pages of paragraphs telling us...I told u so lol.

I've been telling you for years, its the board, not Wenger...

This info shouldnt be surprising to Arsenal fans.

Oh I've known our board has a lot to do with our inability to get the best players but I also think Wenger has a lot to do with it as well. Both are equally to blame for this mess we find ourselves

But as long as fans are happy to pay the extortionate prices we charge, nothing will ever change.

I'm still hoping we do sign a striker, a decent one at that. Still have time to make the signings we need, transfer window doesn't shut till early part of sept iirc.

Yea, i really don't think they are equally to blame, people expect a challenge on every front from Arsenal whether it's the PL, CL or FA cup, but like i've posted before with the graphics about transfer spending and wage spending, Arsenal don't spend nearly half as much as the teams around them and have the 4th highest wage bill, going by those stats, i think Wenger does an excellent job as manager. People just expect so much because they used to that consistency, he's never finished out the top 4, it's remarkable really. If he had Abramovich as the owner, he'd of won more, i have no doubt about that. I still think a striker could come in though, i reckon Gazidis is saying that just to calm people a bit, if the right player was available for the right money, they would do it. They like value for money...

PS, Arsenal are not in a mess, get a grip lad, i watched Leeds fall from grace :p:(

to be fair, Arsenal's transfer policy outside of Ozil and Sanchez has been a total joke, they would have and could have won more titles had they actually dealt with the issues in their team.

And those 2 will leave if Wenger and the board don't show any sort of ambition to win a title soon.

And tbqh I wouldn't blame them if they asked to leave.

Why all the hate for Giroud? He's a good player.

In my humble opinion; Giroud is a good player, but he is not European quality striker, he is an excellent second or third choice striker for an elite European club.

I also (sincerely) appreciate Wenger's attitude to the transfer market, that is to not to throw money at a problem, to work with what he has through good coaching, however, sometimes splashing a little money is ok.

Do you think we are a poor club?? Stadium has been paid off more or less, we charge stupidly high prices for season tickets and tickets. So the club is making money and also from sponsorship deals, qualifying for CL and not forgetting the TV money as well.

So why are we still bargain basement hunting???

And no I don't think we are in a mess, far from it. But I can see the atmosphere at the Emirates getting quite toxic like it did last season.

Eh?

Who's bargain basement hunting?

Arsenal have a track record of signing (and bringing through youth players), if they are good enough they play, if they are not they do not and are moved on.

Spending a couple of million on a 15-18 year old is a better long term strategy than, er say, Manchester United letting an 18 year old Pogba go (for 800'000 compensation) and then spending ~100'000'000~ to bring him back, or Chelsea / Manchester City who have a history of buying established players and not bringing through the youth?

In all seriousness, the self entitlement from Arsenal fans is absolutely astonishing. Arsenal play good football, have a lovely stadium, debt free, fantastic youth policy, and compete for trophies, play in Europe each season. No single club has the 'right' to win the league, or trophy anywhere they have to work hard for it, Arsenal do but they have remained true to a philosophy.

More Pogba developments:

Mourinho has pretty much confirmed we want him but is playing it cool: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36857733

Raiola has flown out to Miami to meet Pogba (Italian press)

Nothing major just yet, it seems.

The whole Pogba thing is so embarrassing. I wouldn't go for him out of principle.

let him go for free and then buy him back a few years later for £100 million!

Arsenal obviously aren't a poor football club, the stadium hasn't been paid off i don't think, they were paying more every year but have since lowered the outgoings as a deal with the banks demanded Wenger get in the top 4 or something, i don't know the exact details but the stadium isn't bought yet, i think there's another 10/15 years left to run on the loan but they are paying considerable less than they were.

I'm not sure what you mean by bargain basement hunting, Anelka was 500k from PSG, just because you spend a lot of money, that doesn't mean you automatically get a better player. Spending more on a player is more of a risk remember. Xhaka was £35m, it's hardly bargain basement hunting. That new kid from Japan will be playing in the Rio games, might be a chance for some Arsenal fans to watch him, i've never seen him play, it'll be interesting.

Yea, a toxic atmosphere doesn't do the club any good, they aren't going to start spending 200m in a transfer window, the quicker you get on bored with that, the better. I am actually more convinced than ever that the toxic atmosphere last year directly contributed to the fade of the teams performances in the last 1/4 or 1/5 of the season. It's a never ending spiral with some Arsenal fans. You wont win the premiership with anything but the best support at home, fractured fans, fractured team spirit. They play only for you, If you don't support them through thick and thin, they won't want to win for you. It's human psychology mate. Put it this way, if you're seeing a girl who's going through some tough times, if you pick her up, be strong and support her, will she love you more because of it? Yes. If you moan and blame her for it, you push her away. A football teams morale is no different..

Chelsea are rumoured to be trying to buy Lukaku for around twice the money Everton paid a few years ago, its just that all prices are pretty ridiculous now and have been for years now.

Bale and Ronaldo (I seem to recall) where both older than Pogba is now, admittedly its hard to say whether the latter is as much a game changer as the other two because of the position he plays and in a more dominant team / weaker league, but he is certainly going in the right direction.#

edit - How sad is this - a certain website is so desperate to write something new , the headline is " Paul Pogba removed from Juve's twitter header"
