i5 with 1080 or i7 with 1070?

Keep CPU and get a 1070. You will have no issues at 1440p for a while.... I have just build a system with a 6500 non k and 1070 and it runs everything I have tried at 1440p no issues.

upgrades in CPUs are so small that I would just keep that i5 and get a 1080. That will give you much more performance than an i7 with 1070. Heck I am running a 5 year old I7 at under 4 ghz and the 1080 just makes everything fly.

hmm, keep that i5, get a 1070 and a GSync monitor ... that sounds very good as well ...

This option will arguably give better results than getting a 1080 and an i7, with the bonus that you`ve got a monitor that will delay the need for a GPU upgrade in the future.

Thanks guys..I've got a lot to think about, would a Gsync monitor actually make that much of a difference in game playing?. My U2715h looks beautiful,it's only a few months old and to grab a new Gsync?? I'm not to sure about it tbh. So if I keep the i5 grab a 1070 and a Gysync monitor, Is that what most of you would recommend? Thank you all again for your advice

The only real upgrade path from that monitor is an x34 Superwide...going TN GYSYNC will underwhelm you...

A 1070 will push a solid 60fps so you dell is fine...I have two and an x34

hmm I didn't realise that's the monitor you had. Looking at the specs it looks pretty good to me. So we're back in the land of keep your i5, keep your monitor and only upgrade your GPU. 980 TI vs 1070 vs 1080 will be your choice based on what you need and your budget. I added 980 TI because they seem to be selling cheaply these days and it's still a strong card.

I love Ocuk forums, everybody has different ideas my heads mashed...but I love it:D
My U2715h is a beautiful monitor. It does 60fps vsync on to prevent screen tearing. I don't game competitively guys no Cs go or anything like that so what's the difference above 60 FPS?.
Maybe a 1080 would be overkill if I only game at 60 FPS?
I'm still no closer to deciding haha..but thanks guys loving all your advice
Cheers

if anything, we are best at confusing the heck out of people who need advice. But seriously, just keep your stuff and get the best GPU you fancy. You won't spend too much cash in the process and that's always a good thing.

Yup, I agree with the last few posts. I personally see no reason for myself to get G-Sync or Freesync because I am only interested 60FPS - so anyone who feels the same doesn't need it either in my opinion.

That's my understanding aswell mate. Is there any visible or noticeable difference above 60 FPS ?

Thanks Cleeecooo watched it.
What if id never seen or played on a Gsync monitor though?
im assuming 60fps would be perfectly fine for say.GTA V Witcher 3, Fallout 4?
I can get that fast first person shooters would benefit but other game genres?
Thanks for the video link, and advice pal.

60fps is perfectly fine for those games.

However for a game such as Witcher 3, playing @1440p with a GTX1070 will often see the framerate dropping below 60fps if the video settings are set to fairly high levels. I like to keep games running at 60fps with V-Sync enabled in order to keep movement in the game looking smooth. A GTX1080 will probably reduce the amount of time that the game drops below 60fps, but unless video settings are reduced to some degree, the drops are going to be fairly frequent. Less demanding games may stay above 60fps most of the time, even with high quality settings. That's where G-Sync comes in. Any drops below 60fps are not really noticed, unless they are really big drops (down to 40fps or less). Having G-Sync means that you can afford to keep video settings higher without having to experience the "stutter" when the framerate dips below 60fps.
