So due to me trying to rush a purchase i missed out on a cheap Fury Nitro the other day, and the stock and prices of aib cards for both companies currently suck.

So i was looking at other options, like i see a powercolor devil (hybrid cooled) 390X for about 300. Would that be a stupid choice right now given the 480 and 1060s?

I would be missing out on hdmi2 although i do have the club3d adapter for that. It does look like in most things the 390X would be faster, or am i losing my marbles?

Forget the 390X. At £300 it's old and washed up.

Buy the 1060. It's much faster than the 480 in DX11 games, which make up 99% of games today and most games in the next year or even longer. It's about on par in DX12. The 1060 uses significantly less power so it runs much cooler and quieter. It also overclocks better.

I'm having a similar predicament to you. From what I've seen the 390X is the most powerful of the cards, followed closely by the 1060 and 480 tied, depending on what you look at and who you believe.

ATM I'm edging towards the 480 because the non-ref cards seem to have impressive performance (better than the 390X) and there's also scope for minor improvements. Based on that I've ruled out the 390X and am now deciding between 1060 and 480.

I haven't, because i dont have access to the wonderful mm for usa purchases, and i dont really trust places like redditv for stuff like that.

A 1070 would be awesome and i have considered it, but kinda annoyed at the price gouging for them at the moment.

That's fair enough! I'm on a 7970 (pretty much same performance as your card) and I think I'm going to wait for a while to see if NV fall further behind with DX12.

second hand 1070, is that even a thing already ?

I'm hoping that it will be with the Pascal Titan :D

First, apologies to Scougar, it's not my intention to derail his thread!

I am guessing that whoever buys a 1070 it's because :

1. it's enough performance for them.
2. They don't see the value in paying more to get a 1080.

I don't see these people suddenly splashing on a Titan :)

Let me dream dammit :mad::p

I reckon it might be people who got the 1070s as a stop gap

What games do you play and wht games do you plan on playing? If your going to keep this card for a while (2 years or longer) I would lean towards a 480 8Gb as the more DX12 and Vulkan games that hit the market the more a 480 will show its worth.

Just an idea, why don't you ask Gibbo maybe there is a way to get another of those Fury Nitro's? He's done it before for other people on the forums, reduced the prices for like a day so they can still buy a cheaper version. I'd give that a go, you never know.

I would likely keep a card for at least a year.

Everything seems to play pretty well already with my 380, but I just want something new and shiny :-D

I play at present, Doom, home world, fallout 4, planetside 2, grid series stuff, wolfenstein, dying light, shadow of morder etc etc.

It's not much faster in dx11 it's a little faster in dx11 games. Overall it's about 5% across all the games if you consider that most reviews refuse to bench hitman and Doom in dx12 and Vulkan and are using a lot of gameworks games. I wonder why...
The 480 will be more future proof imo.

Which just seems odd, the 390x 'should' be kicking the butt of the 480 but somehow it seems it doesn't, or am I wrong?

The 480 was basically last gen's flagship performance for the mid range market, which, to a large extent, it has done perfectly.

OK.. going to try hard NOT to get the 390X or a Fury... I might cave though.

It was made easy for me today in a certain store, when I saw 1070's on display and they were asking 450. If it had been at the MSRP I probably would have bought one lol. In fact, I am pretty darn certain I would have.
