Overwatch

I'm fluctuating around ~49 - seem to go up to 50 and then back down to 48 over and over again... It's disappointing that the games on the way up are always seemingly balanced and very hard-fought... but then the games on the way back down are absolute spankings (quite often with one very good tracer or something on the other team that carries them)...

Still a complete mixed bag of experiences in competitive.

Sometimes people don't say anything, sometimes you get one lone voice who seems to become the leader by default.

Had a great Numbani game last night where neither team had even captured the first point to start the payload moving. Went to sudden death, we had to defend and they had 4 people on the point in Overtime. Our Mercy did an amazing resurrect and me (Tjorbin) was revived on the point. I put a turret down, activated molton core and quickly bashed away to upgrade the turret. Just after that, an enemy Zarya used the Graviton surge ult on all of us so I randomly just used my gun to shoot in their general direction (couldn't see anyone) and got a triple kill and we won the game. They couldn't believe it :)

I got POTG but really it should have gone to Mercy IMO.

Another game on Hanamura - Again it went to sudden death and we were defending. We lost that one and me (Tjorbin again) and the Tracer on our team copped all the blame for some reason - It got to the end of the match showing the cards for best players and Lo and behold, Tracer had the most damage and I had the most kills (and 4 gold medals)

Idiots.

They aren't levels though - they're rankings.
If they work correctly, you should hit about the right point and then go up and down a bit, always returning to around that rank. Variation over a few hours of play should be meaningless - it's the long term trend that should matter.

The only way to 'permanently' increase would be to get consistently better at a faster rate than most players.

Obviously, when you have a run of bad luck and find yourself in a lower skilled bracket it can feel very painful to pull out of it, specifically because the people you're playing with (and against) will be worse than you're used to. No cure for that.

The rankings are on a bell curve - once you're above rank 50 you are better than the majority of players.

for example, by skill rating 54, you're actually in the top 30% of players.

Really uninstalled? Not just "I'll leave this for a bit" or "I'll play some quick play"?
Try using the reddit find-a-group thing - any premade, even one of strangers, will be better than solo queue if you're really that tilted by rubbish teammates. At least you know it's people who are willing to try/talk.

I'll probably end up going back to it as not a lot of multiplayer around that interests me currently. Perhaps I've not played enough, but couldn't seem to top 56 due to team comp and leavers. Maybe unless you're top 10-15% this is getting near the limit for only playing public?

I think solo-queue really hurts consistency, which in turn keeps you at lower ranks. Even a duo would probably help (I'll give you a shout once I reach competetive).

I'm not saying you were bad (or good) as I didn't see the game, but in my limited experience of this and MOBAs (which this game seems to share some aspects with) just because someone has the most kills or highest damage doesn't mean they weren't the problem. Playing a game as though it's team deathmatch and ignoring the objective may get you kills and damage but may not help with winning the game.

As I said, not saying you're wrong or that you were to blame for the loss, just pointing out that those stats might not tell the whole story.

Had some terrible games yesterday. Can't wait for Ana to die down and people can get back to their usual plays.

I thought i would give Genji a go and had a fantastic game! Had 3 others and pretty much sucked.

DVAs reflect change is better. Seeing her used a hell of a lot more now.

Playing with other people is way better than solo queuing, which is something I have done since release.

Grouped up with a couple of randoms that I met playing competitive (we won) and proceeded to play several games for the rest of the evening. We won a few and lost koth on Ilios despite being 2-0 up :o

We then had an epic match on Hanamura, where we had a leaver in the first round. We soldiered on and the match somehow went on for 6 rounds (?!), which we narrowly lost.

All in all, I will be seeking out groups more often, just a shame none of my friends play.

4 gold medals is for eliminations, damage, objective time and objective kills

Anyone who has 4 gold medals did well for the team, believe me.

Oh yeah, the 4 medals thing definitely suggests playing the objective. I'm not sure that most kills was the most significant stat of the 4 to 'prove that.

And tracer?

Finally reaches level 25. Hopefully when I play comp people actually use comms as it does make a difference.
