Hi All,

Looking for some advise, never done PCP, and my E90 is coming to the end of it's life and I've had this deal offered to me.

This is the car;

http://jct.dev.cogplatform.co.uk/used-car-details.aspx?regnumber=S20RLF

And this is the price;

£12,490
£20 road tax

£299 guard X

Finance products

Tyre and alloy insurance £399
RTI Gap insurance £449
Smart repair £349

Total on the road price £14,006

Part exchange valuation £2,000

Customer deposit £500

Balance £11,506

Finance deposit contribution £500

Total deposit £3,000

Mileage 18,000

48 month term

Payment £224.01

Optional final payment £4,567.50

Tbh, at the moment, I could do with something just a cheap monthly figure (which that seems to be), and something which has a bit of power when I put my foot down and still quite economical.

The additional things added, do I really need them?

Even if I took the deal, any chance of further discount you reckon, or maybe servicing thrown in?

Any help will be appreciated, I've always bought, but after buying a house and the things to go with it, capital isn't high and I think my current car is a bit of a ticking time bomb.

Cheers

None of these will be good value when bought from the dealer. If you need them, then seek out a third party provider.

Edit: what's the spec and mileage on the e90 as £2k sounds a little low?

It's almost £18,000 in total for a 3 year old Volkswagen Polo including a grands worth of pointless insurance products.

It is genuinely terrible and honestly a little worrying you couldn't see that without asking :p

Look in the lease thread - there are people ordering Polo GTI's, brand new, for less money per month than this terrible finance deal with a much lower deposit.

Can pick a 2012 plate with low miles for about 5k-6k.

Look the same, drive the same... you just wont have your warranty but i doubt the car will cost 9k in repairs...

Some of you people love throwing money away dont you :p

You could get a new Fiesta ST for that, amongst other things. Madness.

I think you'd be better off with a deal on a new car rather than a 3 year old Polo.

£299 for GuardX would get you a proper professional correction and detail for that, not just a sealant applied by a chimp in a dealer. £1200 on GAP, tyre and dent insurance is just utterly laughable. GAP insurance would only be £100 or so online.

They're not just pulling down your pants, they're going in dry...

Tyre and alloy insurance? Cue the John Mcenroe.

So many better deals out there for this as already mentioned. :)

pcp is only really economical on new cars where the rate is low, and then arguably only if you're likely to do under the max miles to try to keep some equity in the car for the next car's deposit. Used car pcp tends to be about 10%, so it's usually better to go to the bank and get a loan and actually own the car instead of lease it (or even try the banks own pcp scheme).

But, as Rybo has said, a Polo 1.4 should be quite reliable, it's a good make and isn't a highly strung sports car, so if low monthlies is the priority, then what's wrong with something a little older?

I was close to getting a new Polo BlueGT, 5dr DSG with about £1k worth of extras, that was £230 a month with a 1k deposit (incl. trade in)

Definitely not worth it for the used one.

Eurgh, this is why I hate leasing :-\

The main issue I have is that there's realistically about £2k trade in for my car at the moment. There is some cash, however, I really want to keep that for funding anything for the house if things start going south (boiler breaks etc...)

This is what I'm after;

Cruise Control
~50mpg
0-60 ~ 8 seconds
Hatchback / Estate
5 Door
Climate control
18,000 Miles
~£200pm

What E90 is it? Surely it's worth more than £2k privately?

A couple of years ago a friend of mine got a brand new Seat Ibiza FR Edition with the same engine (a very good engine, I have to say) and more equipment than that polo, on a PCP deal for a lot less than £200pm. They generally seem like much better value than the Polo.

If cash is tight why do you think 15 grand cars are the right answer?

There seems to be this thing where the less money people can spare the newer the car they tend to get :p

Given how many E46s are on the road it seems unlikely that an E90 is at the end of its life. I'm also very surprised that it's only worth 2k.

Looks awful. You could probably get a new one for less (in total cost)

£12.5k seems a hell of a lot for a 3 year old polo

That Polo was never going to give you 50 MPG.

My 1.2 does, and that has the same quoted MPG as the BlueGT, so I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

Highest I've had was 66.6 on my commute which is a mixture of A roads and 30mph towns.

Really? I would have thought it would do fairly easily. My Fiesta ST averages over 40mpg so a recent 1.4 140bhp Polo should be able to get 50mpg average easily i would have thought.
