R9 290 blown capacitor

Return the card where you bought it from? Because from your wording, I assume you bought a used one.

Unless i is that top left one that looks like it is chipped, which one are you referring to?

On the question of replacing capacitors, very simple to do. Just use a decent soldering iron though. The cheap 30w one's destroy stuff as they take too long on contact.

Edit: If it was sold as working and doesn't work, get a refund.

I would just return it and ask for your money back, if one cap has blown you dunno what else might be dmged.

Its the cap by the 8pin, the one which is on its own.

I do have a soldering iron, but not sure rated caps they are and need to get.

I picked the card up and paid cash, dont really fancy 45miles there and back again.

If I travelled 45 miles to pick up a card sold as working, only to find out it was broken I would demand the idiot send you the money back in the post. They have obviously sold a card with the intention of tricking you - the cap looks like it falling off!

I hope you didn't pay a lot for it...

Looks like something is missing from the space below the fan connector too... ?
It does, but it's actually normal. None of them have anything there.

Might work replacing it, ive replaced a few caps, half have fixed it half have done nothing.

Just tell him its dead, if hes got any decency hell just refund you, offer to send it back to him slow post.

I sent a CPU out once and it was working when i sent it but arrived dead, i had no problem refunding him as he was a longtime forum user and i had no reason not to believe him, im sure if you bought it as cheap as your saying im guessing about £40 then he isnt gonna argue over it.

Ah i just read further up, you knew it wasnt working when you bought it, i was wondering why you were trying to get it working rather than returning it :) nice work getting it working.

Them reference coolers are pretty rubbish but you could always undervolt it a bit if its getting too loud.
