Just doing my renewal on the gtr.

Done the price comparison sites, on the phone to Flux, who else needs a direct call?

A few of the specialist insurers won't do BMWs. They see them as higher risk due to the statistics.

Statistics they seem to pull from thin air!

This time last year I was looking to insure my 530i Sport, ballpark £370 was what I got as a total premium allowing for zero excess, legal cover, protected bonus, courtesy car, monthly payments and breakdown cover, this year's ballpark for my 1.7Dti Corsa with the same level of cover? £372!

Bit of a joke, I'm 45, a professional driver with 12years ncb ffs!

I'm in Cyprus on holiday at the moment so won't be calling around just yet but these comparison sites seem cack - I got the 530 covered eventually last time for £290 iirc.

Is that with Greenlight though or another insurer? When they say they don't insure BMWs due to the number of claims, it will be those who would be insured with them - not the market as a whole. Big difference.

I tend to use Chris Knott, Flux, Brentacre, Sky, A-Plan, Greenlight. All get quite close so I move year by year between each one.

No, that was just via the numerous comparisons sites, I got the 530 down by going for an hgv driver scheme and I'll see if I can do better via them for the Corsa this time around.

Corsa is probably the type of vehicle driven by younger/less experienced drivers compared to a 5 series which could influence the statistics. There is a general perception amongst the public that insurance should be proportional to vehicle power and value, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Steer clear of Flux. Myself and many others have had bad experiences with them in recent years.

Not so true, they refuse to insure the Mk2 Focus RS as 1 in 3 of their policies were resulting in a total loss, either through a crash or theft. It's based on their own experiences, not the whole market.
