HTPC Build For Plex

If I was building a plex server now I might try the Nvidia shield and a cheap NAS box to host content.

Having said that your build looks good and would certainly do a good job.

My setup is a gen8 server with a e3-1270v2 (a touch overkill but the celeron struggled with bigger files and the xeon came up at a good price) and the ps4 as client. Server is upstairs as the fan is just a little too noisy. Your server would have been a nicer option but the gen8 wasn't bought for plex so it was more making do. Occasionally get tempted to sell and just buy a Shield but everything is working so trying not to touch it :D
 
I will build a server when I get around to it as I will need to run a server for a game which is being developed, as well as containing backups of / and development files.

However That will happen when I upgrade my current rig which will then be turned into a server, thats why I thought there is no point building a HTPC and a separate Plex server at the moment just.

Not to mention that if the missus is watching movies downstairs on the HTPC which is the plex server she won't complain when I start moving heavy files across the network.

Next I need to look at connecting the HTPC to the network / Internet.

Does anybody have any experience with the TP Link Powerline Adaptors ? I have read mixed reviews.

Also, what would be the best way to control the HTPC / Plex from around 10 foot away?

I don't stream, I just download and watch through kodi, but 1080p hasn't always been that great on Intel, though I only needed onboard for a brief moment.

I like like to think it can be made to run 1080 as I have a dell optiplex gx620 DT with P4 HT, 3-4gb ram and a GeForce 6200le 64mb(does have that turbo rubbish) and ran 1080 better than Intel 4000 part from it was a little slow motion and sound was out of sync(I tested sniper). My files are h264 Bluray in 720p & 1080p.



I think it's been well established that if you want to use onboard graphics you need skylake or an APU alternative as far as computers go otherwise you best of with those fire/android stick/PI.
 
I have a G3220 in my Freenas box running Plex. It streams my 1080 content to my TV via a FireTv box without any problems.

I also stream Plex via a FireTv stick to my caravan TV over 4g.
 
I'm stuck at the moment on how I would connect the HTPC in the living room which is the other side of the house / downstairs from the studio where the Router is.
