Each newbie don gets given a wooden spoon and a pen knife.
Those that whittle themselves a wooden star out of the spoon get made dons.
Those that can do it quickly and without injury get made into Don's for the case section.

It's surprising the number of spare fingers that always seem to be left over after the initiation ceremony.
