Overwatch

What do you guys make of the current ELO-boosting situation?

Quick summary for those who haven't seen or heard of it - a high-ranked player makes a second smurf account, intentionally de-ranks it to the low ~30-40 ranks, then queues with their high ~60-70 rank friend. Due to the way the matchmaking works this often puts them in a game as underdogs by several "team average" levels, but of course the de-ranked player is much more skilled than their rank suggests... If they win they all gain a huge rank boost due to being "underdogs", if they lose they lose barely any rank at all... They can then swap over to gradually boost each other into the top 500 for the rewards

You get kicked for 1 minute of inactivity, so I highly doubt this.

In that case I guess he was trolling us and just sat there laughing, moving his mouse now and then, but he didn't leave spawn in that time.

Thinking about it, he did a lot of stuff like picking Widowmaker when we were on attack and never going near the point. I assumed at the time that he was less experienced or didn't get that it could be a big deal how the placement matches come out (I don't mean it's 'important', but it's going to colour my next 20-30 hours of the game). If he was messing about to troll us (or to get a deliberately lower placement rank) it would make more sense. Hanlon's razor lets me down.

Happened to us once or twice yesterday. We were in a 6 stack at the time (all of us between 48-55) and we destroyed them.

You just need to Google "overwatch boosting" and you'll see how many sites are offering the service for cash.

The top 500 stuff only gives you a bonus spray and icon so that's a lot of effort for internet kudos.

Yeah but you also get 300 CP's for being above level 65, no?
Yes it does. The things people do for cosmetic items. Mad.

Here’s the Skill Rating (SR) to Competitive Point (CP) breakdown for Season 1:
SR 0-39: 10 CPs
SR 40-45: 20 CPs
SR 46-49: 40 CPs
SR 50-52: 60 CPs
SR 53-55: 80 CPs
SR 56-59: 120 CPs
SR 60-64: 200 CPs
SR 65+: 300 CPs

I still haven't won a single competitive match :( 2 attempts left to get a win. Don't know what it is. It's nearly always close which arguably makes it worse!

I'm not a great player, but certainly not bad by any means! In fact I'd say I play a really strong Tracer and Reinhart.

It's completely about the teams and how well they work together... Proper communication, proper countering (switching heroes as required), co-ordinated pushes and counter-pushes... Each person understanding their role in the team and playing it correctly... If any one of those things aren't there for your team and are for theirs you're going to have a bad time...

For the most part (there are always exceptions) the people who are at the high ranks are part of decent teams that play together regularly, although it does seem above rank 60 or so the chances of randoms you meet in game being likely to work properly as a team goes up a little bit.

Yeah, that's probably true.

I wouldn't say my aim is great, which is why I tend to favour characters like Roadhog, D.VA, Pharah, Lucio as opposed to Mcree, Soldier 76, Hanzo, Widowmaker etc.

I can't really comment on the super high levels but I've seen plenty of people with ridiculously good aim at the lower levels - they're usually the ones who religiously pick Widow or Hanzo and then rage at the rest of the team when they lose for whatever reason with that classic "everyone's fault but mine" mentality...

Not saying aim doesn't matter at all, but I think positioning, movement and awareness end up deciding a lot more engagements than aim does a lot of the time... That lvl~50 Reinhardt who just dropped his shield to go charging into a full team of 6 without a single member of his own team to back him up except the now defence-less support who gets gunned down... The S76 sprinting back to the point alone ignoring calls from the team to group up and push together... The Winston jumping blindly into an area where the enemies Reaper is clearly visible whilst oblivious to the Genji flanking his team-mates...

Yes, yes, you've played with me before...:p

Won a competitive game on Dorado the other night in the last couple of seconds by sending my DVA ult over the gate and landing the explosion perfectly on the cart killing the 4 people on it. Forgot to record the bloody highlight though, it doesn't stash them anywhere in the game files does it?

Just picked this up, anyone else getting 5+ min waits on quick match?
on ps4 it was sub 10 seconds. Or is this game just dead past 10pm?

Its not normally that bad... Might be because you are a bit behind in level compared the the majority of the playerbase now?
