BBC Gone Olympic Mad?

The only thing I find annoying is that they have taken 455 staff to cover the Olympics (which we're paying for). They don't even provide the footage, the host nation does. What on earth do they need to take 455 people for just for the links in between the events?

Yay for not paying it!

I've turned off my BBC news notifications on my phone as this is all it is.
I don't mind as it's only short and it is popular.

Never been a fan of "we are doing really well" the athletes are doing really well, not the fatty in the chair watching it.
But I would rather do than watch. In fact the sports I do are the ones I find most boring to watch.

No I haven't watched any of it

The athletes have done really well, and congratulations to them,

I'm enjoying it. BBC programming is rubbish anyway. You're not missing anything.

I'm glad we get to watch it on the BBC instead of it being sold off to Sky Sports. It's no different to other major sports events such as the World Cup.

I don't see the problem with it. A big sporting event that happens every 4 years and they have exclusive coverage, of course they're gonna big it up.

I'm in agreement with the above, however I do think the constant channel swapping then repeating the same highlights package annoying.

a bit odd, they are always olympic mad and for a reason. this isn't anything new.
any tv channel with the rights would be the same and i doubt even sky would do a good a job of covering it as bbc does.

although winter olympics is a 1000x better.

Sky wouldn't have Balding so that alone means they would be better.

if and the chance of sky putting enough money behind it and showing so much live through website is another very big if.

such certainty of wiping the floor, is so unfounded, bbc do an incredible job with the olympics and something that sky would unlikely match with their profiteering mindset. or if they did over all the channels to support showing so much live it would be behind a massive paywall.

I'm quite enjoying it - considering the amount of coverage the England football team got to make an embarrassment of themselves - I think it's pretty good that we're doing so well, especially for such a small country to be second in the medal tables and above China - I mean wow! I think it's worthy coverage tbh

They've spent a lot of money on the coverage so they're going to get as many people watching it as possible. I do think it's a worth while investment though, it's incredible how well we're doing

I love it and have spent every spare moment I can watching it. This time next week it will all be over. :(

At least they didn't take Sue Barker and Tim Henman to the tennis. That's something.... :p

You'll be moaning in 6 year's time when the BBC only has a few bits and bobs to show because Discovery (Eurosport) will have it all. :p

We're not really a small country. We're ranked 22nd by total population, top five economies, top five military powers etc. The real surprise is that we've not been performing better in the early 1990's and 2000's.

Wonder how much of this is down to the increased scrutiny of drugs leveling the playing field a bit more?

:o

You know how Russia have been exposed for massive statewide doping, who finished above them in the medal table last time round?

I think part of our success is targeting funding and resources around the Olympics at the expense of other events, but if other nations dominated events like we have done this time round then questions would be asked. I'm not saying we are cheating but the attitude that British = clean is naive. All athletes have the same desire and pressure to win.

Probably not so much of a surprise when you consider how heavily doping is/was used by some of the other countries.
