Summer Transfer Window 2016/17 - Rumours & Signings

Arsenal are now being linked with Fonte - absolutely laughable if we sign him. Not downplaying his abilities as a defender, but he is older than both Mertesacker and Koscielny - that is hardly what we need, another ageing CB.

You need a cb that can play immediately. He can...

Fonte would be a good signing, good defender, experienced, whoever we get needs to have a bit of prem experience, we've already got youngsters, Moustafi would've been nice but if Fonte came I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I disagree, its a paper over the cracks signing, not one that pays any heed to the long term future of the club.

Unfortunately, its the sort of signing that has become typical of Arsenal since the move to the Emirates and I can see that being the only money we spend between now and the end of the window.

This isn't the last time we'll ever be able to make transfers though... It might be papering over the cracks, it's better than nothing and Fonte is a decent player who can do a job for the next couple of seasons. If we don't get Scrotum or whatever his name is, the alternatives that have been mentioned haven't been any better than what Fonte would offer us.

We're debating something which isnt true i suspect. That Mustafi has been nailed on for a while. Arsenal valued him at 20m, Valencia valued him closer to 30m, there was a stumbling block with valuation but i think a fee has been agreed, it'll be 26 to 29m i reckon, something in that area. Personal terms have already been agreed on.

I thought we'd agreed contract terms but not a transfer fee. No doubt Wenger offered well under as per usual.

Personal terms have been agreed. Agreeing on a transfer fee has taken a while by the looks of it. Pogba's deal took a while didn't it, it's nothing unusual for transfers to go back and forth.

His first bid for Lacazette was 10 mil under what they already rejected from West Ham. He has money available but won't accept that times have changed and that you have to pay more.

Keys bit from Trusty's link translated.

In recent days , the information coming from England have highlighted the agreement reached between Arsenal and the player himself , presented Saturday in Mestalla with the rest of his teammates , leaving the pending operation of negotiations between clubs. As he told ElDesmarque , Valencia CF appraised the player at 25 million euros, why Arsenal prepared an offensive with an offer of close to 23.5 million euros.

This Sunday , the British press said that Arsenal already know you should offer ' a significant amount ' if you want to take the German international to the Emirates Stadium. The figures are now shuffled around 30 million euros

There we go again, AW trying to haggle and just annoying people.

Yea, but that's clever though isn't it. Big club power, Lacazette could have forced a move to Arsenal but not West Ham. Didn't work, fine. They obviously don't value Lacazette at 50m, i concur. 50m? He's not 4 times the player Giroud is, Lacazette wasn't in the French Euro team, or do you think that's irrelavant?

A deal will be agreed, it's such a small amount between the clubs valuation that i cannot see that Arsenal not will to stump up a few more pounds. I can hear you fans saying, "why don't he just offer 30m straight off the bat?" Well guess what, Valencia would then have moved the valuation to 37m or something. Art of negotiation, read some books on it.

It's not clever, it's ridiculous. We are desperate for a striker and he wastes time and risks alienating the club with a derogatory offer. Players cost a lot of money these days, we need a striker, Lacazette is highly regarded, yes it's a lot money but you won't get better for less and prices will keep going up.

As Josh has just said about, haggling over 1.5million euros, we could have sorted this ages ago and not had to play 2 awful centre backs at the weekend.

It's not haggling over 1.5m euros, you obviously haven't been watching it unfold. He has a release clause of something like 45m mate. Valencia were willing to allow him to move for less than that, they didn't put a specific number on it though. They said around 30m. Arsenal have offered just shy of 25, now they will get down to specifics and a deal will be agreed. Like i said before, i'm sure it be around the 27 mark.

Also, do you think it's wise to spend 50m on a player that didn't make the Euro's?

Even with the inflated prices of today, Lacazette isn't worth 50m. Tolisso & Fekir would be a better way to spend 50m.

They said around 30m. 23.5m is not around 30m.....

Plenty of players didn't make the Euro's, I think him not going was quite a surprise to many people. Do I want to spend another season with just 1 average striker or do I want us to show some intention and sign a young promising striker who really could make a difference at a price which is in keeping with this summer? It's not hard to work out. I thought we offered under 40 most recently.

Like i said, read some books about negotiation. We don't know the specifics of what valuation they said, it could have been 34m or something, we don't know the specifics. You have to leave yourself a bit of wiggle room for an agreement. They'll have a number in their head, we'll have a number, it's about compromise now. People get well worked up when a deal is in the process, just wait til the window closes and see how much we've paid.

Deschamps didn't pick Lacazette for the Euro's, i think you have to be a bit of mug to stump up 50m for a player that didn't make the Euro's
