That 1.5 hour news delay was pretty unprecedented, although I doubt anyone could have forseen the way the race delays unfolded when they originally decided to move the news by 30 minutes.

Made me chuckle to think of all the moaning that was likely going on around the country about the Olympics being more important than the news, only for the first news item when it eventually did appear was .... the Olympics :)

haha so true and the wait was worth it one of the most emotionally charged evenings of the year apart from Murray winning Wimbledon for the 2nd time.

Great period for British sports and I am looking forward to asking my European Colleagues so how many medals has your country got...

Hmm 28 very good ....

Well we're only at 50 so far...

gotta steer the nation away from all this brexit news somehow.. and the bbc being a giant propaganda machine, coupled with us doing well in the olympics? The story writes itself.

I haven't watched a single second of the Olympics.

Us neither - not one single second, don't know who has won what and care even less. Some people need to get lives of their own. I reckon videos of the olympics should be given out free to people who suffer with insomnia. :p

I also reckon they will be playing Olympic DVDs in the job centres over the next year when the queues start to lengthen as Brexit begins to bite. Well always assuming we did okay of course.

Whilst the constant histrionics do begin to grate somewhat, it's great to see the GB athletes doing so well.

I'd also much rather the Olympics have wall to wall coverage than any football tournament.

I read on another forum that the TV audience at it's peak was only marginally higher than the bake off final so what does that tell us?

Furthermore I well remember the great selling point of 2012 was that sport would be the great legacy of the games, they would transform the health of the nation. That hasn't really happened has it - the Brits are known as the lardy boys and girls of Europe and with good reason.

People love cake :p

I actually tried to Google the UK obesity trends but the data tends to end at 2012/2013 currently - would be interesting to see the latest statistics.

On to more serious stuff, arguably the legacy actually never promised to transform the health of the nation - just be more active ;) (see below):

The Coalition Agreement committed the Government to producing a safe and secure Games that leave a lasting legacy. Our task is not only to ensure that the Games are a success as iconic sporting occasions but also that we make the most of the Games for the nation. We as Government will focus on four areas in doing this:

• Harnessing the United Kingdom’s passion for sport to increase grass roots participation, particularly by young people – and to encourage the whole population to be more physically active

• Exploiting to the full the opportunities for economic growth offered by hosting the Games

• Promoting community engagement and achieving participation across all groups in society through the Games; and

• Ensuring that the OIympic Park can be developed after the Games as one of the principal drivers of regeneration in East London.

And yet here you are. Seems you've spent more seconds telling us how little you care and ranting about people who do, than actually watching the Olympics. Remind us who needs to get a life again?

I'm intrigued why you have no interest in the Olympics. Are there no sports you're interested in as a participant or spectator? Perhaps the sports aren't included in the Olympics?

You know, other than those that were inspired by the games in London and then took up a sport. Like the GB boxer Buatsi who was working at McDonalds at the games in 2012 and now came away with a bronze.

Fat people going to be fat, the games won't help them it's their way of live and their choice. Others though, like him have been inspired to do something so I don't see the problem. These sports are far reaching and give lots of people an opportunity to find something they are passionate about and I am all for that.

It irks me an awful lot that synchronised swimming is in the Olympics (I do not for one second think that it does not require a hell of a lot of training and technical ability, but a sport?!) and squash isn't.

I really, really, really want them to get squash in there.

If you've spent any time sofa sloth-ing during the last couple of weeks then you do. :p
