Its the only way. :D

Wish I had kids playing around where we live. My 9 year old daughter has no one to play with thanks to the fact no one our age can afford to buy a decent house and all our next door neighbours are in their 60's, widowed, occupying a 4+ bed detached house.

I live in an area where kids play outside too, I don't really mind them playing but one of them has the most annoying high pitched scream ever.

I try to remind myself I was once young and did much the same thing. However I will admit I like my peace and quiet, and would rather be in a quiet area :)

Get one of those high-frequency juvenile disperser gadgets?

Absolutely not. For a start, I can hear those and they're irritating as Hell. Secondly, you don't have a right to go about inflicting discomfort / pain on kids just because they're playing in the street where you live.

There's a park just adjacent, right? Why don't they play there? I'm guessing a combination of being near someone's house / kitchen and not being allowed to ride on the grass.

I cant function on that low of sleep,You might be able to but were not the same. :)

If you can not hack the lifestyle of nights then get a job on days. If you can not get a job a days then pull up your socks and get on with it.

I worked 5 years on nights and as the previous poster said forget about sleeping in the summer. Get a couple of hours here and there while you can. Night shift is not for everyone.

Its not just because of the school hols,Its literally 7 days a week all the time..when they come back from school its straight out up our end again,Some dont even bother changing their uniform and they are out until a good 9pm.

Surely that is a perfect alarm clock for you to get up for work? Finish at 6am, in bed by half 07:30ish, woken up by crazy kids at 3:30pm equals 8 hours sleep.

I might be a little prejudice here but I presume you have no kids of your own?

Working nights is all about routine; clearly the noise is disrupting their routine in some regards hence the complaint. I work nights and I can't do a few hours here and there, it also disrupts your free time if you're having to nap later on in the day. Excessive noise outside is not part of the "lifestyle" of nights, is it?

Suggesting that OP get a new job is bloody ridiculous all round.

If it were me, I wouldn't confront the parents about this, potentially ****ing off the neighbours is not a good situation to be in. Your best bet is to try and do whatever you can to minimise outside noise: triple glaze your windows, ear plugs, move to a back bedroom etc. I'm not sure what you class as land, but if we're talking front garden/driveway, then having a fence and gate installed seems like the logical choice.

Oh but it is. That's why you get that unsociable premium because you are working and sleeping in unsociable hours.

What is he going to do when next door decide they want an extension built and have power tools going every day or when the neighbours are using their jet washers on their car or even cutting their grass.

I hardly call £9.15 a decent premium these days for night work,Minimum wage should be at least £10 per hour and FOR DAYS!

With that said as its sort of unrelated to my post..and saying get another job is just stupid.

I know i asked for suggestions,But its not only my post as of lately,I've noticed no matter what the subject in GD people always end up been toxic on here and
"Its all OPs fault,Hes stupid" blablabla.

I dont get why people are so toxic sometimes.
Guess il take a nice break from GD..thanks anyway everyone. ;)

tried earplugs?>

I can't really understand, and it hasn't been adequately explained, exactly what "land" the kids are on. Are they in your actual garden? Just setting foot on the edge of your driveway where it joins the road? Would anyone reasonably say they were actually on your "land" and would you be seen as hugely petty for enforcing it? As has been said, a gate and a fence make sense.

Plus, if your windows are not double-glazed and you are not taking the VERY obvious step of wearing ear plugs (I live next to a road and wear them every evening, they dramatically cut background noise) then you really cannot reasonably complain about children playing in the street unless they are doing something unreasonable. To me it sounds like they are just playing and being kids, and of course the noise is being exaggerated as it is ruining your sleep.

Frankly I'm with OP here ... I two live in a generally quiet neighbourhood but have issues at time with some of the kids playing on my property ... and yes by that I mean my front garden. It isn't all of them but there are a couple in particular who have zero respect for anyone elses property (to the extent that even the kid from next door got stropy with his friend for destroying plants in their front garden). They seem to think that everyones garden is their playground.
