Germans to be told to stockpile.

My guess is they're prepping for a massive bank failure event. Imagine what would happen if Deutsche Bank were to fail.

Either that or it's just part of the whole 'the Russians are coming!' US led fear train.

^^This could be it when we invoke article 50.

They are asking people to basically cover a weeks worth of living, you seen what happened in Greece so maybe that's it.

They know there banks are bust and with the UK leaving that's the achilles heel to Germany.

If I had money I would short the Euro at the moment.

that is another possibility... and again though only a small chance it isn't unrealistic either - potential massive cluster**** if that happened

Saw it on BBC News website - now top of the read list.

If you scroll down on that article - that's one angry/sad faced look out tower :D ;)

I bought 9x 1kg Scottish porridge oats reduced to clear in Tesco yesterday - so I'm sorted :D

From that article it seems to be broad spectrum which is a bit odd - everything from smallpox to radiation. You don't tell people to stock up on EVERYTHING unless you are trying to mask the real reason or have completely lost the plot.

They aren't telling people to stock up on everything.

Just to keep a sensible amount of food and some basic emergancy supplies.

While at the same time the government is expanding/modernising its civil defence planning

I know it's probably nothing more than the Germans being stereotypically efficient and getting in ahead of things as a precautionary measure, but those last two paragraphs are slightly worrying.

Well its been 20 years since they wrote thier civil defence procedures.

Since then the world has changed a lot

If it was for financial reasons then why would the German government be telling citizens to stockpile cash and further reduce the liquidity of the banks?

Germany's civil defence strategy suggests people should stockpile enough food for ten days and clean drinking water for five days

Food for 10 days and water for only 5? Whats the point having 5 days of extra food if you're dying from dehydration?

Anyway I expect martial law to be imposed as well as total curfew. Best case scenario I guess you will be allowed to replenish your own food in groups which are supervised by military personnel, otherwise you will recieve supplies to your door with 10 days. I reckon it's why they've chosen 10 days for food because tap water would still remain potable for whatever is planned.

Food and water and the above, that's covers everything am afraid for a bank crash or whatever defecation that can hit the fan. :(

As you've already answered yourself, because the water is unlikely to suddenly stop flowing from the taps is it? Whereas the logistics of getting foods onto market shelves may be much more susceptible to any catastrophic event such as a large terrorist attack or economic melt down.

Because water supplies are much more likley to be a very short/localised disruption.

Pipes make it easy to move it around along with communal water butts same as we have here when theres waterworks on

Food requires a bit more logistics to move around.

So like i said basic emergancy supplies. Coal and wood will be for those who rely on them for heat anyway.

Blankets torches batteries and cash you should have anyway as thats just basic power outage stuff
