except they where all 1 time and time limited.

they gave concessions designed to bribe one to two government terms worth

They are concessions none the less which at least shows willing of other member states.

The corner stone of the Remain campaign was 'half hearted'? Anyone would think DC wanted to lose ;)

It's not about any particular government, it's about the UK always being on the fringes of the EU, getting involved but never committing fully. That context means the political capital you have for negotiations isn't what it could be.

Half-hearted? We ended up voting to leave the EU. How could we have been more committed?

Leaving a club isn't the same as reforming it.

We tried. They gave us nothing so we are leaving

Does it show willing to cut us a meaningless time-limited deal? I think it shows the unwillingness of the member states to do anything meaningful to keep us in the EU

No but if you can't reform it then you leave. It's not like the referendum was a surprise to the EU, they had the opportunity to give Cameron some meaningful reform, but instead they gave him thin gruel in what was a massive miscalculation by European politicians.

This sort of thing from this week's news, this is why fences are going up and why National borders are something that Juncker should not be deriding.

Sudanese migrant is stabbed to death in a clash with Afghans as they return to the Calais Jungle after a failed attempt to smuggle onto trucks heading for Britain

The man had failed in his attempt to leave the Jungle and travel to Britain
He and another Sudanese man clashed with a group of Afghan migrants
Number of attempts to halt trucks and jump aboard has grown
There has been a rise from 'five a night to around 15, 20' in recent weeks
Eleven migrants have now died this year in and around Calais

The Fail and the Express ...... but, but I suppose its what Diana would have wanted. :D

Now now, insults, insults. Just to show balance, (and I have mentioned several times in these forums that I also read the Guardian, and you will not find a post of mine decrying what national dailies others read or cite from), here is what the Guardian are saying about the likelihood of other countries wanting to vote on leaving the EU:

"After the UK backed withdrawing from the EU, politicians elsewhere are calling for referendums in their own countries"

http://www.theguardian.com/politics...xit-or-oexit-who-will-be-next-to-leave-the-eu

Apart from the small far right like the AfD the article shows little support for a Referendum/or wanting to leave the EU

Doesnt mean the content is wrong - dispute with evidence.

Facts and experts you say?

The figures for some other EU countries wanting a referendum seem fairly similar to those we saw over here. They couldn't resist saying those who wanted to leave were ill educated, I am sure you are hoping we thickos are not contaminating the minds of morons elsewhere in the EU? ;)

Calling the AfD small, and far right is probably doing them a disservice. They grow stronger by the month and by every report of atrocities carried out by those of ethnic origin. As does Marine in France. Cracks are appearing all over the place, and soon the house of cards will fall!

Not really snobbery, those "papers" are hate peddling rags.

What tripe. If they were translated and read out to the happy campers of Calais do you think they would pack up and look elsewhere than Britain to illegally enter? They aren't coming for love, but filthy lucre.... Some papers acknowledge the fact, other have a rightful opinion they are coming across the world as nowhere nearer their starting coordinates is "safe".

Because i think most of the Eu (members leaders and EU leadership itself) didnt believe we would actually vote to leave. They had to give something because Dc said he would go and negotiate and come back with something to vote on. Quite late on the polls seemed to swing, but not to a clear win for eithere side.
Look at the reaction of the markets as the vote closed. The pound jumped, a big collective sigh of relief went out, the nonsense was over, normal service would be resumed, then it became apparent that was in fact wrong and hte hsort period of uncertainty would be replaced with a new longer one.

I dont believe he could have come back with anything that would have made a difference to the vote realistically. The liers peddling £350m would have stuck to that, the fear factor of the herd of immigrants heading for the UK, walking dead zombie style would still have been peddled.

Dc took a gamble and it backfired spectacularly. I bet if we could wind the clock back 6 months you would see a different negotiation taking place right now. At the end of the day the members are in charge of the EU not vice versa, its just that the Eu has been carried away with its own agenda and the member states havent had cause to stop that. UK may well brexit, I highly doubt you will see other states exit, but for sure there is going to have to be some climb down by the EU at some point, take the last budget round for an example of how they had to relent, it just takes the membership to go "err no thats not how its going to work"

Im still not convinced the tories really want to do it. The government in charge is going to get some massive blame over the whole thing if its less than a resounding success.

Whole thing is one serious unmitigated **** up to be honest.

I just hope that no matter what happens we manage to get some cohesion back between the sides, if you look at the scottish indy though it appears once you open the can people dont forget and dont see it as over.
I mean 5-10 years on, if there was a full blown brexit, and the UK wasnt seeming to do very well its very easy to see a highly EU centric party forming, the polar opposite of UKIP, with one target to seek re-entry to the EU. There is nothing to stop that happening, and with the way politics has gone with a general distrust of the establishment (ie Lab/Con/Libdem) then they could easily force the mandate of a shall we join the Eu vote.
