I thought this was not being done that much now days with most of today cars mileage gauges being digtal..
probably easier as modern cars have handy ports to jack straight in.

May get an Sclass on a 5k mile deal.....
Where did you go to get the data to spot a clocked car?
Have to say that I "believe" I was on the receiving end of a clocked car a few years ago. Had bought an E30 touring with below average miles (at the time). Looked in great condition, but whilst I owned it, had a litany of technical issues. I was sure that it had probably done another 100k more than the speedo said.
Offering the service isnt illegal, its in the same area as things like dvd copying towers. Nothing illegal about offering to reprogram a memory chip.
The online MOT history logs mileage at each MOT but think you need the V5 to check.
Never looked on there before, quite interesting to see what your old cars are up to!You can check online, you just need the registration and make: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/
People who were clocking old cars probably thought no one would find out about it. But now you can simply go there and check. If someone sells a car and does not tell you it's been clocked it's fraud.
Don't they just drive it around in reverse everywhere to reduce the mileage?!
Doesn't that actually work on old cars with cable speedos? (of course, its still a stupid approach)![]()
