Hi folks,

Just wondered. Have any of you ever worked at a place that offered no extra pay on Christmas Day?

That is what is expected of us at our place and I cannot recall in 20 years of working at various places this has ever happened.

Seems a bit harsh to me.

Edit: actually I did a retail job when I was younger that gave 2x pay.

Yes, my last job.

If your day fell on Christmas you had to work it normal pay. Fortunate for me I worked there 6 years and left on the year it would have been mine.

Trololol.

I did at one time. It was a call centre and they asked for volunteers and somehow they got them too. I'm now back in my proper career role and as it is manufacturing we have a shutdown over Christmas.

Edit: Actually they may have had a weekend rate for the day which was 10p/hr extra so wasn't exactly an incentive.

Yes.

Was working for a large UK civil contractor about 8-10 years ago that offered a 2k 'turning up' bonus and then triple time. Used to walk away with about 3k on Christmas Day. Each year they took away more and more. My last year in the UK before emigrating to NZ they offered 1.5x only. No bonus. Still had heaps of people volunteer. Including me, who just didn't turn up but still put in a timesheet and got paid.

Can imagine nowadays it'll just be normal salary to work on Christmas for those lot.

Yeah i wouldn't be working a Christmas Day unless i was relatively compensated for it.

Thankfully we have a shutdown over Christmas.

My current job did it last year. Apparantly the first time they've ever not paid people extra for Christmas Day. Thankfully I managed to get the day off though.

Where my mother works (old peoples home) she has to work Xmas day for no extra pay.
Complete load of crap imo,you should get some bonus but nope. (Privately owned large home & owner owns varius other properties too,hes seriously loaded.)

Where i work too,Due to the recent nat minimum changes they scrapped our Double time on working a bank holiday,So we just get normal pay now.
They also scrapped getting paid more doing sundays too.

Makes me mad when they openly state millions of pounds of profit yet they will stop every little thing they can in terms of our wages.

The thing is now,Were all easily replaceable and they know that,Its either like it or lump it as far as they're concerned.

A couple of times in the last 5 years, that is the problem when CES is just after the new year. Being salaried meant not a single pence extra.

I did it last year got 4x OT plus we had the normal rate included in salary

I was "working from home" too and didn't get as much as a phone call :p
