prices back then

The x1900xtx was $600 which was pretty extreme. I got my HIS Ice-q from here for £350 not long after launch. The £ was really strong back then though at around $1.85 per £1.

This card was pretty much your Titan of the day so not to bad.
 
Inflation alone would bring that deal up to £400+ with pound worth 20% more plus then, there was also competition at that end of the market as well as the 7970 being phased out to be replaced by the GHZ edition to combat the GTX 680. So that £369.99 card would AT LEAST be £480 in today's money.

Which for the most powerful Gpu on the market is pretty good. The most powerful Gpu on the market these days is Titan Pascal and it comes in at £1100. Give me the £480 any day :D:D:D.

Well it was the 2nd, as I said it was back when there was more competition back then helping keeping prices down. In a nut shell the market conditions where very different to 4 years ago on the high end.

It wasn't as time has shown. The 7970 is a much more powerful gpu compared to the gtx680 of the time. Sure games needed to catch up to GCN and the driver team had to unleash more performance but it was always easy for me to see it was going to be more powerful than the gtx680 looking at the specs and low clocks. The original Titan didn't arrive until nearly a year later.

Consumers are getting royally shafted these days with nVidia GPUs - they've managed to not only put up the price a tier but also pull the hardware down a tier at the same time and people just accept it and even defend it!

Oh well I still seem to manage to hit those deals so far but for many years I managed to get 2 of the one down from top end card for less than £400 total :S only this generation really where I've not managed to do that (780 GHZ was a bit of a special case and doesn't really count).

I know on release day my GTX680 was cheaper and faster, why else did AMD drop there prices and released a higher clocked version then (which broke the Performance per watt as well).

As i said Completion help keep prices down.
