Sadly its not a case of they sat on it for two years, its a case they only noticed this month which is even worse.
Ahh I was under the impression it was the 2012 hack but they only just realised how serious it is.
My bad.
Ouch then.

2 years ago... you would have already had the spam for this.
Still though... why is it now that they have announced that they have had a breach. All companies should release details as soon as they are aware of any breaches, like Cisco have in house processes to do this as part of PSIRT.
Sky use Yahoo's infrastructure for their mail don't they? Does it mean any of those accounts are included in the breach?
What's a good alternative to yahoo?
Didn't know they were still going.
Great! So i can expect someone to hack into my geocities website soon then and replace everything with dancing hamsters!
Not sure on Sky but BT do.
They have. They have immediately released details as soon as they were aware.
Sadly, they weren't aware. It took them two years to notice. It was only cause they were looking into a hack last month they discovered the entire database was lifted two years ago....................
Interesting they are saying its been a country power who hacked them not normal hackers.

How do they discover such things two years later, admins going through old logs?
Or finding an exploit, and checking back to see if it was ever used?
It looks like they were investigating a current hack. The two year old one was obviously very well done with it not being noticed at the time.
