Dell premium panel guarantee

Hi all

I'm umming and erring about the wonderful looking very well reviewed Dell U2515H. What puts me off monitors, however, is the horror stories of dead pixels and the likes. I'm now trying to get my head around the Dell Premium Panel guarantee. I.e. does it cover monitors from any online retailer? Even a single pixel?

I'm sorry if it's a basic question - I'm looking for peace of mind from people with knowledge :)

It's basically extension to service which Dell provides (so you will have to send monitor to them for repairs). So it does not really matter where you've bought the monitor - it will definitely cover monitors from online retailers.

It covers even a single pixel, but it must be bright pixel. It does not cover dead pixels which are permanently dark.
 
Thanks, that does rather clarify things. What's the chance of getting a dark pixel vs a bright pixel?
I'd say chance of dark pixel is slightly less.

Bright pixel happens when TFT transistor fails and does not pass current at all - hence "dead". This causes LCD "shutter" to be permanently "open" and hence subpixel remains bright.
Dark pixel happens when transistor only part-working - it stuck permanently on, hence LCD permanently closed, leaving dark "stuck" pixel.

However dark pixels by no means ultra-rare and pretty common occurrence still.
 
All of our Dell monitors are sold with a pixel perfect guarantee for the duration of the warranty period, in the unlikely event your monitor has ANY pixel defect
 
Hmm, so what's the logic behind only guaranteeing against one sort of defect?
To make it more attractive to consumers (especially ones who won't bother to research the fine print). The fact that dark pixels are not under warranty is not widely known and most people informed about it when (if) they actually try to claim on their warranty and Dell tells them it not covered.

This is actually the best you can get, imperfect as is.

All others I know offer one under "ISO standard on dead pixels" which is pretty useless for any kind of modern resolution - e.g. it would allow ~16 dead pixels for 4K display before it considered faulty.
 
Just for completions sake - I bit the bullet and bought the Dell U2515H.

Wow, it's a lovely monitor. Haven't noticed any imperfections yet (almost scared to try a fully white or black screen just to avoid tempting fate...)
 
Take it from me who had/has this monitor.

I bought mine from the rainforest and had 1 pixel go but it responded it certain colours and not others. Hours on the phone to Dell support, they admitted the pixel was misbehaving as I sent photos and they denied me exchange under the premium panel guarantee.

I had to go through to 2 managers before they would even accept the monitor has premium panel guarantee and said I'd get a replacement recon'd unit out.

The rainforest place swapped it within 2 days for me in the end.
 
Pixels seem fine so far. A little noticeable backlight bleed in the bottom left corner but not enough to worry about.

Given the horror stories which crop up when researching monitors, I think I've done alright.
