Just picked up a cheap Nextbase 101 Go dashcam and I'd like to wire it in permanently if possible. It comes with the usual 12V cigarette light adaptor, what do I need to wire it in such a way that it's live when the engine is running?

You need to find an ignition live, I find the overhead console is best as you can have a short cable run.
You can either find one from using an online diagram, or a volt meter.
Just check the wires for a 12v feed when the ignition is on, and then turn off the ignition and check the voltage is 0.
Is the camera actually 12v? Quite a few are 5v using a step down from 12v in the cig lighter. So you may need to use the circuit in the original ps to ensure it does not go pop!

Enough research done and i am now on the verge of buying the F770 , Front and Rear Package, for £249

Anyone recommend the best site to buy from?

Just checked it and it's 5v output from the 12v adaptor. :(

You can just used a 12V hard wire kit. Piggyback off your fuse box using a fuse tap from a fuse that's live on ignition (which is what 99% of peeps seem to have done) and something something Bob's your uncle. You can ground from any existing grounding point on the car, usually brown wire is ground, but consult a diagram or owners forum to confirm for your specific car.

I have a hard wire kit unused and still in its packaging I can send if you do want to go that route. No charge.

But won't that be a 12V Feed which will kill the dashcam? Or is there a step down somewhere in the hardware kit?

Yup, otherwise it would be called a piece of wire :p

TBH just get the piggyback fuse, a 12v cigarette lighter socket, use a 2x USB adaptor (which will give you 5v) and run the dashcam off that - gives you another USB to charge a phone with or power another camera.

Micro USB, not mini. Mini USB is the ancient connector format.

The box is just a dongle that sits in the middle closest the wire end that taps into the fuse tap.

I have a 2x USB adaptor already. The connector on the camera isn't the same as my micro USB on my phone though. I'd need a far longer lead than the USB one that it comes with.
