Which brand new car would you buy up to 25k

Somewhere between £2500 and £3000 roughly adding things up in my head, plus lots of time, lost blood and swearing

Any regrets? I guess now might not be the best time to ask actually? :p

If I had a MK2 MX5, which I don't........ I think 200HP would be a good enough number for me. That should be achievable for a good chunk less I'd imagine. :)

Is this a hypothetical question OP, or are you actually looking for some advise?

Anyways... I'd buy an Octavia VRS petrol with a few extras.

I already bought a new car about 2 months ago (Focus ST-3) and am just interested in what you guys would have bought if you had the same 25k budget....

I have no regrets yet
(Apart from I would liked some more of the extra options available on these cars like rear camera/electric sunroof/black tinted rear windows but it was already in the showroom and I would had to wait about 5 to 6 months for one I spec myself)

Looks nice! I had a go in a colleague's pre-facelift ST and it sounded wicked for a 4 cylinder petrol!

I was going for a fiesta ST which would have been nicer to drive on Guernsey very narrow roads with the fiesta being about 20cm narrower ..

But the focus ST had so many things I like better about it compared to the fiesta ST
(E.G things like Full Leather upholstery , nicer dash board display, 8 " LCD, just a much nicer interior over all, Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive front lighting system , 5 door, plus I like the look of the focus ST much better)

Can totally understand this, I'm a spec whore so I'd dismiss anything below the Focus ST3 where you get most of that kit. Surprised they introduced the Fiesta ST3 but still no xenons or full leather.

I guess the reason most likely is because no other fiesta in the range has xenon's ( so ford can't just raid there spare parts bin for them :D )
where with the focus Bi-Xenon headlights is an option or comes standard on some the other range models like the Titanium X

There has never been a particularly powerful MX5, and they are expensive to get more power out of. On the older ones you could squeeze a bit more out with breathing mods and by advancing the timing a bit and running on premium petrol, but for any significant boost you'd need to fit FI, which is very expensive.

On the 1.4 MultiAir you can at least remap it for an easy 20HP~ when you feel the need. More than you can do with the Mazda engines!

That hasn't changed with the new one either. BBR do a kit for the 2.0 which replaces the exhaust manifold, centre section and backbox, changes the intake, adds a remap, and results in 190 bhp for just under £2k fitted + VAT. With new camshafts that'll go to 214 bhp. I know that's not FI gains, but it means 200bhp/tonne which is not insignificant, plus retains the character of the MX5.

BBR even does a remap for the 2.0L which gives +17 bhp, and +20 bhp for the 1.5L...

214 bhp in an MX5 would be an awful lot of fun!

160 bhp in a car that weighs just over a tonne isn't bad. They're not meant to be muscle cars.
