Do Space Aliens really exist?

I'm not disagreeing, that its not better and will get better. but I certainly disagree about near utopia, for one reason everyone has a different idea of what that is.

and I don't even see such a species shying away from contact if such a situation arose.

do you really think in 1000 years we wouldn't still be searching and make contact if it arose. even if we've expanded to several solar systems.

However I did like the relevant stories the media all talking about brain cox on the Fermi paradox and civilisations killing themselves, only for him to tweet, its been fun being misquoted all day.

media really is rubbish. even specialised media get stuff wrong 95% of the time.

Utopia is subjective, i get that. But perhaps that is the future, that the world around them is manipulated in a such a way to create utopia for the individual.
I suppose we already have that, if you have a passion for computer's, you can come to this forum and chat to people about them, manipulation of the environment to entertain the individual.

I agree that technology and morality are not linked completely but i think technology plays a huge part in it. If living standards are lifted due to technology, morality follows, you don't need to be immoral to survive.

True but fingers crossed there is a far more intelligent species out there somewhere capable of finding us, I don't think us as humans will be capable of such technology for hundreds if not thousands of years.

That's if they don't find us first and kill the whole planet!
 
Slightly off topic but do you think in the near future it will be possible to manipulate human brains genetically. To make more Einstein super brains?

Probably morally not right but you could say the technology is there to speed up human evolution and create a super human squad.
 
I have a fool proof way to become mega rich if already mega rich and capable of building a spacecraft to travel to the closest black hole, presuming you already have a device to keep you alive for an indeterminate amount of time in stasis. When I say foolproof, i'm still ironing out a few key details, my astrophysics and maths isn't what it used to be :mad:

So... build yourself a spaceship with your $$$$'s and travel to the closest black hole, remember to leave a sizeable amount of cash or assets left over that will slowly gain interest over 1000 years, must have some reliable form of ensuring it doesn't get squandered or stolen mind.

Orbit said black hole without passing over the event horizon, depending on the size of the black hole calculate how many orbits it will take to alter space-time to ensure that when you make the return journey back to earth, 1000 years have elapsed whilst you have been kept alive in stasis.

Return to Earth and become superior overload with your new found wealth and age :D

Intelligence is based on knowledge not genetics. The more a person learns in life the smarter they are. Providing a person is born with a normal healthy brain they have the potential to become very smart if they learn the right factual knowledge in life. Einstein clearly learned the right stuff which culminated in his profound insights.

I disagree, genetics make up how much knowledge you can store and how to use it efficiently.

It was found Einstein had differences in his brain compared to average.

Of course genetics have a part, if you have no brain your not going to learn a thing !

If you don't learn facts in your life then you're not smart. Hence knowledge in a healthy brain is dependant on the facts you place there. It's not genetics.
 
Here's another thing to consider.

Lets say we already have the technology to travel the stars and have met other beings out there (the Star Trek type civilisation basically), but for some reason the general public - and many levels of governments even - were not informed of these developments and anything remotely connected to this is suppressed - why would this be, what would be the advantage of this to those involved?

Well, some points to consider:

1) National security / to retain a technological advantage over other nations

2) Leads to questions concerning how these craft are powered - would this replace the current reliance on Oil (profits) in our every day lives?
You think people are going to want to continue paying power companies when a much more efficient and most likely clean method is available?

3) Loss of control over where the masses can travel / more freedom for them?

4) The implications of disclosing that we're not alone out here - the affect this has on religions and the changes to society in general

5) The less informed people are the easier they are to control and manipulate - not everyone has a moral compass and plays by the same standards as your average good person, look at the rich vs the poor - do the rich want everyone to suddenly have the same lifestyle and means as them?

6) Advancements in science and health that would most likely come as a result - loss in profits once again for many who make huge gains via people being sick and being treated rather than cured.

I just find it odd that many people never even consider this option and believe anyone who does has a screw loose - despite witness testimony from numerous professionals, pilots, ex-government contractors / corporate employees etc supporting this. Yet this witness testimony is often ignored or very infrequently reported by the media, again, we're not talking about nuts here but often professional and often highly qualified and respected people.

I think the main problem is, most can't conceive of a lie this big or or how any group would be able to maintain it and why they'd do such a thing, when it's so far removed from what they personally would do in the same situation.

Compartmentalisation and a need to know (think how the atom bomb was developed) helps here to keep things discreet and the media / masses being tightly controlled, and often doing the dirty work for them - I.E. ridiculing those thinking outside the perceived 'norm' or accepted story.

Keep people uninformed, distracted (TV, money, possessions), busy on the 9-5 grind and most of their knowledge from vetted sources - is it any wonder they have a hard time looking past the small box they're corralled into?

What is really worrying about this is its people like these who damn near voted Trump into the White House. As it happens it doens't look like he'll get there but it was a damn close run thing. And its people like this who vote in the most powerful state on earth with the largest nuclear arsenal. Who they probably think nuclear weapons exist to so they can be pointed at aliens.

Actually no its not worrying its bloody terrifying.
 
Aliens are most likely very real, You only need to look at our galaxy, In the region of 100 billion star systems with other estimates being closer to 400 billion, Each system housing anywhere from 0-10 planets.

That's a maHOOsive amount of chances for life to exist.

Whether they have visited our planet, No clue, I don't see why they would interact with us anyway as we are extremely primitive and violent and still kill eachother in the millions globally every year because some imaginary man in peoples heads told them to.
