I returned my Note 7 yesterday and having already sold my Note 5 I need a new phone, the problem is I have no idea what to get. Had the Note 7 not come out I'd have happily stayed with my Note 5.

The only 2 phones I can bring myself to consider are the Pixel XL and the 7 Plus. I'm not sold on either tbh but as above, I need a new phone and unless I'm mistaken there's nothing else in the pipelines worth waiting for.

I know I'm unlikely to get many unbias opinions but what would you guys go for out of the 2?

+1 for a good thread, I was in the same position as you

I went from a iPhone 6 to Note 7.

Nothing else interests me and from what I can see, nothing 'amazing' coming out in the next few months to warrant a cheap buy now and wait.

I went with the Pixel XL in the end.

Why?

Roughly the same price as the iPhone 7 plus
Didn't fancy going back to iOS after my taster with android (first time in 4 years)
iPhone 7 to me doesn't seem much of an upgrade from the 6s, so in my head i'd buy the 6s however if I was spending this kind of money on a phone I would want it to be the latest gen
Pixel camera seems to be as good, if not better than the Note 7
Unlimited photo and video storage

My Dad and Wife were in the same position as you, Dad went with the iP7+ and Wife with the Pixel XL.

Had a play with my Dad's iPhone and it's just no for me. Don't like the design and much prefer Android.

But it's pig ugly.
This pic of the phone has helped ease my initial thoughts of the design - doesn't look too bad here

It's not the best looking phone I'll give you that but i'll be honest, i'm more of a function over form kind of guy and if the hardware and software perform as they should, i'll happily overlook the chin and odd two tone rear to the phone

I just couldn't bring myself to going back to apple and this was the lesser of the evils.

iPhone, I find it to be the best all round package for what I do. If there's nothing specific about the customisation side of Android you rely on, I don't see why you wouldn't like it.

It's a personal preference thing really, though I'd try a Pixel first as they're a bit of an unknown quantity at the moment.

Glad I don't like phablets. I would obviously choose the pixel but it is really ugly and probably doesn't have the camera of the Samsung phones. Shame Samsung failed with the note.

Even though it isn't an option is go with the edge (I have it) but obviously isn't big

You don't know much about the pixel do you?

Comes in 5" too and DXO have given it the highest rating for a smartphone camera.
