Desk Chair

Leather cracks eventually if you buy the cheap nasty "pleather" if you buy a half decent leather chair you still have to look after it. I have a mesh back chair worth about £800 they say and after sitting in this day in day out i really like them so i decided to go out and buy a mesh chair.

Interesting that pic of a Staples chair with 1 year old.....

looks like it´s has been in a war,lol

I bought mine last Christmas - so it has 8 months of intensive use- I am 5´9 but weight 18.5 stones...
and mine is still looking like new...

I am very happy with it,because it´s a xxl chair - the bottom measures 21,2" x 21.2 " and when I am sitting on it my "bottom" matches perfectly the bottom of the chair
if it is less roomy I will be very uncomfortable...

anyway the warranty here is 2 full years- if mine looks like that one in the pic in that period - back it goes to Staples, lol

I had the Markus prior to the Leap. It was comfortable and even though the headrest isn't height adjustable I sort of miss it, but the Leap is a far superior chair - things like the way the seat shifts forward as you lean back, vertical/horizontal adjustment of the armrests etc. It doesn't look as comfotable visually as the padding etc isn't very thick but it's one of those things where you can just sit in it and not notice you don't get uncomfortable or want to shift positions etc.

And yes, I'd never buy one of these new, except maybe the fully-loaded Embody if I was earning a sizable income. Plenty of companies buy these chairs and go bust so they end up being sold for peanuts online.

Does anyone have chair recommendations for us larger folk?

I've got an old chair that was a present some 8 odd years ago, but the back is falling apart, the arm rests are loose etc etc.

Only most chairs i see, seem to be rated to 14stone, what about people a er... tad above that (or a lot?)

There are some that are rated to 25 stones

just do a search by " big&tall office chairs"

http://www.officesupermarket.co.uk/p/Marathon_Leather_Chair.htm

but the good ones are very expensive...

Hey guys im in the office furniture business
so have seen and used many office task chairs in my time
and currently have a few steelcase think chairs for sale.. Ex demo and brand new
So pm me to ask any questions...

I spent £40 on my desk chair. I won't change it for anything. It is comfortable and cheap. What more could you ask for?

Edit: Gah. Just saw this thread was necrod from the dead.

If you want real comfort and reliability look for 24 hour use chairs
I purchased a cheetah 24 hour chair almost 9 years ago and the only things that have failed have been a split in the foam arm which was cheaply replaced and the gas lift has just started to occasionally drop lol, which again can be replaced.
The seat is still really comfortable and it sees a lot of use

I don't know many people who sit correctly in front of their PC's. Personally I seem to spend most of my time in position 1 above. I don't have any back problems though, even after about 20 years. I put this down to taking regular breaks, where I either recline, as in position 3 above, or I simply get up and walk away to do something.

Position 3 is just not possible unless you have extendable go-go-Gadget arms :p

Sorry but that is a terrible chair, it really is. It's badly made, it has terrible support for people who might suffer back issues and it caused me no end of issues with Coccyx pain to the extent I binned it. As an older bloke than most on here I tend to find issues with things that younger people don't but it does also show crap and quality when it comes to chairs. I can sit on something like a Herman Miller all day with no issue at all. Within 2 hours on the Markus I have to get up and have really bad Coccyx pain. It might be fine for many, but it's not a quality product I assure you.

Perhaps your back issues are more sever than most people who also have back issues?

Personally, I've had the Markus for some time and have never had to get up off it due to issues. I actually like the mesh back that seems to form itself around my back as I lean back as opposed to hard back chairs that are quite stiff.

Currently testing the noblechairs real leather one, and it's pretty supportive, like sitting in a car seat from a premium marque. I also like the armrest, which I think are often overlooked by people who buy cheaper chairs without this feature. Being able to adjust the pivot, strafe and height of the armrest is pretty vital for ideal arm positioning.

As I sit here right now using the mouse, the height of the armrest is set to the same as my desk, so my arms have a soft rest to be level with rather than no place to rest them fully.

I do prefer chairs with mesh back, though. I like the "breathable" backrest in those chairs. I'll be looking to upgrade to one of those ergonomic ones with a skeleton spine behind a mesh back. not cheap, but worth it in the long run.

Mrk you really should just splash out on a Steelcase Leap or something, it's not like you can't afford one. :p

Or better yet, why not try a Hag Capisco?

I used to get awful back pain after 3hrs of sitting and would have to lay flat on the floor or bed for a while to shift it. I moved to a Maxnomic Dominator last year and haven't had the pain once even after sitting for over 12hrs at a time.
