CPU Cooler replacement for my H100?

Hello everyone,

I'm getting tired of the pump noise of my old Corsair H100 these days. It is housed in an NZXT S340 case.

Specs:
i5 3570k @ 4.4GHZ
8GB DDR3 RAM
Geforce 1070 FE

I'm thinking of going back to air cooling as they are generally quieter. I also want to future proof as I will be upgrading CPU in the not too distant future.

Any thoughts guys?

I've just swapped out a Corsair H75 with 2 EK Vardar fans for a Noctua NH-D15s and i'm blown away by the noise difference. The cooler is so simple to install using the SecuFirm2 mounting system and i'm sure its adaptable to future sockets.

Highly recommended.

I have a Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard. After Christmas I will be doing a CPU, RAM and motherboard upgrade though.

Is this the dual or single fan variant? I used to hate the Noctua colour but it's grown on my recently.

S340 has 161mm CPU clearance
GA-Z77-U3H is
53mm center CPU to near side of RAM socket
71.7mm to near side of PCIe X1 socket
92mm to near side of PCIe X16 socket

You want a cooler that is less than less than 70mm to PCIe and less than 161mm tall. This will also fit on most all motherboards except mATX and ITX. While some of them have good clearance, many do not.

RAM clearance depends on how tall your RAM is. All DDR3 RAM PCBs are 30 mm tall, All DDR4 are 31.35mm Fake cooling foo-foo (FCFF/FFF) makes most of them taller. Modern RAM needs no added cooling, so FFF is needed, .. definitely not tall FFF! :p

But in your case (no pun) there is only 174mm for both RAM and a fan. This means a cooler with 140mm fan sets forward of CPU center more than 53mm, the RAM cannot be any taller than 34mm .. and that is with fan possibly touching RAM and case.

Here is a list of older coolers that will fit. Far right columns list center CPU to PCIe and RAM sockets. I have not updated it in over a year .. not sure how long ago so I apologize for lack of newer coolers. :o

EK Predators are some of the best pre-built and filled water coolers. It's not a CLC for starters, but it is also a lot more money than air cooling and not as quiet either. Pumps make noise and most can be hard in a quiet room.

S340 with a couple of good 140mm front intake fans speed controlled to supply CPU and GPU airflow as needed and a good air cooler will do a very good job for a lot less money.

EK Predator are £176.99-203.99 for just CPU.

Good air coolers are £40-80.00 and 2 good 140mm fans are only anther £21-30.00 .. that's a total of £61-110.00 .. that is £66.99-142.99 less.

I just received be quiet! Silent Loop 280mm and have only just looked at it. First thing I noticed is how much heavier the be quiet! Silent Loop 280mm is!

I did the same, replaced my H100i for an air cooler. I went with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE. Cannot fault it. Much quieter than the AIO and far more effective.
