Anyone have a Gigabyte RX 480 G1 Gaming?

Ordered one of these as the two reviews I read were good but now I've watched videos on YouTube and they are saying the card runs very hot but. Anyone got one? Is it loud under load? What's your experience with it in general?

I'm thinking about changing it for the MSI model. Hate this :( I've always used Nvidia this is my first ati card in years.

Sapphire's Nitro, Gigabyte's G1 appear to be the worst RX480's in terms of the cooler design, noise and temperatures.

The best appear to be the XFX GTR and the Powercolour Devil, with IMO the MSI in third place (MSI card uses much more power than the rest).

That said, they are all good cards, just some are quieter and run cooler than the others, due to much better heatsink cooler designs etc.

The Red Devil has its own problems.

MSI's is the quietest according to the reviews I've read and runs cool too. I've personally tried both the XFX RS and Asus Strix models, both of which get very loud.

One video I seen said there was a difference of 9 degrees in load temp putting the Gigabyte to 80 degrees. I suppose it's not the end of the world though it does seem high.

To be honest I don't really mind as long as it's quiet but my case is small and I fear that'll make it hotter still.

I was after a 1080 but Nvidia and their partners seem to be having a lot of problems and they are too expensive to buy under these circumstances in my opinion.

An alternative would be the 1060 but I'd like to give ati a chance. Really hate this why can't they just get the basics right! :((

I thought the same too and bought an RX480 because I wanted to give AMD a chance, but like all AMD cards it ran stupidly hot especially for the 'low' power it was meant to draw, and the reference fan was far too loud when trying to cool it for my ears.

After buying a 290X in the mean time (cheap but was like a mini heater) I have now swapped to a 1060, this card is absolutely perfect for small cases it's a really really cool card (58 Celsius when bench marking my MSI Armor with 2.1Ghz overclock).

Looks like the mythical 480, quiet, high clocking, cool running card, that we've all been searching for doesn't exist.

Either getting the quietest or the coolest card appears to be the compromise on these.

My Nitro OC+ 480 clocks well and keeps pretty cool but it gets fairly loud sometimes.

I'm seriously thinking of returning it for a 1060. The last ati card I had was the 9800 which was years ago. It cost £350 and it was rubbish and I've never bought one since.

I'd probably get the same MSI as you as its well priced.

I just ordered an MSI 1060 at least I'm used to Nvidia and know what to expect. I have a gtx 770 2gb now and it's done me a lifetime and still runs battlefield 1 at 50-60fps on ultra and 60+ on high.

Some games ask for more than 2gb to run on higher settings so that's my only real reason for this upgrade. I really wanted a 1080 for 4k and vr but they are all a bit of a fiasco at the minute it seems and a friend paid nearly £700 for his 1080 and says it's not what he thought it was going to be in 4k.

This will do me for a while. I'll be eagerly awaiting the 1080 ti.

REALLY big thanks to Aretak for the PCB videos they were really informative and honestly put me off gigabyte lol. Between not being able to cool the card and using crap components.. :(

I'd stump up the extra and go for a 1070 personally, much better than a 1060.

With it being a new die they've got to learn the quirks, I'm sure the next generation will be better and the one after that better still, Look how 28nm ended, Maxwell was Nvidia's super refined version of what started back with the 600 series, AMD is the same with how Hawaii evolved into Grenada or how the 7900 Tahiti became the 280x Tahiti or whatever it's called, They start out with rough and ready examples that get refined in whatever ways they can manage. People jumping straight into a new generation of cards on a new die need to expect imperfections. I'm hoping Vega will be showing improvements learnt from Polaris but we'll have to wait and see.

I'd like to think so, it's £200 more for one :) I honestly feel the 1070 is too expensive as is the 1080. I just want this until the real high end is sorted out a bit. This will be for 1920x1080 on the tv. I do want to jump to 4k and vr but I'm not sure about the 1080 cards. I'm happy to wait a while longer maybe the new amd ones will be a bit of competition or the 1080ti will be too tempting to pass up.

I honestly don't see the value of the 1070 its like it's in no man's land to me. It's too much for 1080p but not enough for 4k. Ok if your going in between those resolutions I suppose but too expensive for that. Just my opinion :))

The Red Devil is amazing EXCEPT if you do extreme overclocking. Otherwise it's cool, quiet & oc's nicely, so if you don't try to go for world records it's a good choice still.

My XFX 480 GTR is not much louder than my Gigabyte 970 was tbh. Up until about 70% fan speed it's completely silent. But I changed the cooler on it for 2 good quality 120mm fans, so it's not even half as noisy now (and cooler) :P

AMD cards do run hotter, but that's just the way it is. I switched to AMD because I kept getting nvidia cards that were unstable on boost clocks!

Nasher, do you change the heatsink too? or just bolt on 2 fans? I'm tempted to try something like this to quieten down my Nitro+.. it's not quite as quiet as i want it.. and i do have a few spare fans lying around.

The great thing about the nitro+ cards is that the shroud comes off without removing the heat sink. I too have thought about doing this but I found out I just don't have enough room to try it :p

hmm.. my case is plenty big to allow for space.. so might give it a go. Do you run the fans off the card header?
