Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

Hope people will start voting with their wallets now. All these tech companies, including Apple making small adjustments to their hardware but charging a yearly increasing premium.

I don't think it will. It has never changed football fans when they squeal and squeal even more.

Absolutely but is it worth having a subpar machine (comparatively) for 3-5 years just so you can get an extra £100-£200 when you come to upgrade?

I sound anti-mac but I'm really not.

Subpar in what way? Hardware specs? What about having to use a subpar OS for 3-5 years with Windows? I'm not just paying for the hardware, I'm paying for the OS, the apps, the integration with other devices.

I don't like paying over the odds as much as the next person but you can't compare Macs vs Windows machines. It's not just about the hardware though as the OS and software make such a big impact on my purchasing decision, which for work/daily will always be macOS. Unless they somehow bodge this :D

Yes you can, they are in direct competition.

I just don't know who these Macs are for regardless of price, they offer no convenience for either business or consumer user and ridiculously priced hardware add-ons is virtually a must (perhaps that was the idea) if you want to use something as basic and mainstream as an SD card or USB stick.
It seems Apple's vision of innovation is remove stuff and charge a whole lot more for the privilege.

So... end of bootcamp is it? Good luck pressing F8 for advanced options at boot now...

I totally agree with this. I've owned/ own several Macbooks over the years as well as iPhones and iPads and was looking to update my current Macbook Pro. It won't be happening now. The price increases are quite eyewatering, making expensive machines way over the top expensive. The lack of basic ports (and no Magsafe!! WTAF?) has reduced the MBP from a workhorse machine to an expensive toy.

What size have you ordered?

I can't go any larger than 13", or I'd be curious to know if you get any noticeable improved in 4k editing. Especially if you use FCPX

Subpar if we're comparing raw specs.

dGPU, screen etc.

OSX vs Windows has been done to death. Neither is really better than the other, it's personal preference. There was a time when OSX was superior now the general consensus is that they are on a par.

Looks good, but for video editing I'd have gone for the Radeon 460. I think there is about 30% difference between the two, and FCPX does make use of gfx acceleration. I think it's worth the extra more than the 200mhz on the CPU.

Thanks. I'll cancel and reorder with a higher specification.

Its the truth and a valid point....I didn't mention anything about which OS to install on the PC.

That's down to the user. Sample as that.

You must look a bit funny when taking your "PC" and screen on a train to do some work...

** not allowed **

Also, Windows has come a long way. Unless there is a specific app thats not available on windows vs on Apple then i honestly cant see why a apple user cant use a windows machine.

For example, i have both mac and win machines and run both lightroom and photoshop. The windows machine runs LR and PS better and smoother and the overal OS of windows feels as snappy as OSX.

I had a Surface pro 4 and that wasnt bad either.

I find windows is much better for productivity/photo stuff (use Lightroom and PS as well) but prefer MacOS for consumption.

This is something I've been trying to work out too. With the price increases worldwide and the rumours (probably unfounded) that the iPad Air may be the next on the chop list in favour of the Pro (and it's increased price) that makes me think Apple are trying to get back at aiming for the professional market again, and less consumer. But at the same time removing so many of the ports and connectivity options on their devices is completely counter that, and would indicate (to me at least) that they are aiming more for the consumption market, where people are less likely to need to be plugging various different styles and types of devices in all the time. The problem with that is the price premium will be pushin people away. Unless they expect professionals to just buy docks and only ever really use their devices at a desk?

Alternatively maybe they are less aiming at a specific market segment but changing their strategy towards a more luxury brand and hoping the higher margins will offset a lower volume?

Also, anyone know the actual price increases for the US market (not affected by currency)? Are we talking a few percent, 20%?

Edit: finally found it. US prices have gone up by 10% ~$200 (base model to base model), and U.K. Prices have gone up by 20%.

Does the new 13 MBP (without touch panel) have a better processor than the old MBP?

<-- noob here, no idea how to tell

Benchmarks of the new base 13" MBP are coming up slower than the equivalent 2015 13" model. This is to do with it being a lower clock speed which has more than cancelled out the move from a 5th to a 6th generation i5 processor.

I'm not disputing there's a big premium, probably too big but there are solid reasons why there's a premium.

People are prepared to pay more for Apple because historically they've delivered a better overall experience, I'm not so sure these latest products continue that approach especially well and throw in a nice mark up is it any wonder it's gotten such a reception?

I think they've overreached personally, now is not a great time to squeeze a market.

I depends on how often you sell your laptop, a 1 Year old mac will be worth a lot more then a 1 year old Razer Blade, a good reasons is Apple are stubborn with pricing. The trash can still costs a stupid amount even the though hardware is slow as sin now.
