No Bigots Need Book An Airbnb Room

You'd be mad to offer up your place on this site on a "no questions asked" basis. I do however think this is a good move for them, it firmly shows where they are in the market and who their target market is.

You can bet your bottom dollar some gay couples will be seeking out rooms let by highly religious individuals. Much like they enjoy seeking out religious bakers.

This will work both ways though, so gays will have to let neo-nazis pop round and stay at their house....interesting results commence...

Political views aren't covered:

What is the Community Commitment?
You commit to treat everyone—regardless of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age—with respect, and without judgment or bias.

No, it's a sexual preference, not orientation.

When they don't have a choice in the matter it's not a choice or preference.

paedophile
noun
a person who is sexually attracted to children.

homosexual
noun
a person who is sexually attracted to people of their own sex.

heterosexual
adjective (weird!)
sexually attracted to people of the opposite sex.

Notice how similar the definitions are?

Like I said before, it's a recognised psychiatric disorder. Something that homosexuality was seen as (wrongly) until fairly recently.

Homosexuality has only been generally tolerated due to a change in societal acceptance. Whilst I'm not saying paedophilia should ever be tolerated, those who suffer from it and do not act certainly deserve pity.

Can you begin to imagine having to live with something in yourself that you know is so fundamentally loathsome to everyone around you?

This has always been in UK law anyway. Their T&Cs aren't adding anything new. However they are now stating what actions they will take.

It will be very interesting to see how they spot this. This will be very easy hopefully with large amounts of data. If you reject someone with good reviews and then accept someone later on (and there is a pattern of this) it should set off flags.

They could probably already do this analysis on old data and see who they should be focusing on.

its not a uk company and doesn't only operate in the uk. So just because its the law here, doesn't mean it is in other countries they operate and I assume its a company wide policy.

It does make me wonder when a company implement a policy of "respect everyone" and people manage to take issue with it.

Can only be a good thing. Can't say I'm too shocked by some people taking issue with this and using it as a launching ground to make their usual complaints about other groups.

It does make me wonder when a company implement a policy of "respect everyone" and people manage to take issue with it.

The problem arises when somebody has an issue and blames it on another persons intolerances (which may or may not be the case, sometimes it comes down to one persons word against anothers) as an easy way to do over the other person.

It's a slippery slope that I can see leading to a new style of fascism.

They aren't implementing a policy of not rejecting people with bad reviews or for legal reasons.

However if you keep rejecting black people and accept white people, then that raises question marks if they all have good reviews.

For example, if I refuse to let my room to a 34 year old Syrian child

I stopped reading here - how people have so easily fell for media spin from super right wing 'news papers' is beyond me - it just appears that peoples inner racist & lack of compasion for fellow people has been 'allowed' out into the wild.

Racism is rife in the UK, its disgusting, its increased nearly 50% since the brexit vote.

- CS - white 30 something male (apparently race matters a lot to ppl on this forum)

Cool. Another OCUK thread where people defend their right to hate gays/brown people/women as if it's totally fine.

This place really has changed in the last few years :(
