Given how cheap the One S is, there is a huge home cinema community that will lap up the One S for the UHD drive alone.
The home cinema community wouldn't buy a games console to play their media, they would get the best media device which could do it, not the cheapest. Sadly Xbox One S falls under budget UHD player but not the best compared to a dedicated UHD player.

But it's a never ending story, like to take advantage of the superior UHD experience you'll need an OLED TV, a atmos sound system etc. If you have a standard 4k TV with a soundbar you'd be a fool to not just get the xbox one s imo.
Yawn give up now on this. People buy what they want it's their money and not matter what people say there's always another opinion.
There are differences between the xbone's UHD against a panasonic UB900. If you want the best of the best you pay for it, you want a budget item thats within your price range that's what you get.
It's like saying there is no difference between a £500 4k/HDR Tv against a £2000+ TV. It's simply not true.
Plus most users of console's and TV's today stream content and do not use physical media, this is based on current stats. Sony didn't add the UHD to keep price down and their own model currently is to stream media
Like I said, entry level 4k on a budget yes get xbox one s with a budget tv. The issue with this is that it might put people off 4k/HDR as you really need to spend the money on this new format.
To me it really comes down to the games, are there more platform exclusives you like which would make you favour one over the other or are most of your mates on one and you'd like to play online with them?
I've a regular PS4, tempted by the Pro as I'm going to continue to game at 1080 for a while (not paying £900+ for a decent 4k TV) but would be nice to have games run better, Fallout 4 gets quite laggy in places so to have a smooth experience would be great. I also have VR so if it improves the image quality there it's another bonus.
I'm not paying £350 though, seems a bit high, will wait until it drops in the new year I think.
Am tempted to pick up an Xbox One or One S though, going really cheap and if I'm lucky I might be able to get a great deal on Black Friday. There are some great games on Xbox you can't get elsewhere, plus being able to revisit a number of my 360 games would be good.
One thing that's really intriguing me with the Scorpio is this idea that it's an end to the regular console generations, well at least for Microsoft. I read that it will support all Xbox One titles, I imagine it'll be like a phone/tablet where you upgrade every couple of years as you start feeling like the device is getting old/slow for new titles.
I've had it with physical media tbh mate. I just haven't got the space. I have all the movies I want on blu ray or bought through Amazon Prime Video, and my TV upscales them. Plus I have 200mb/s broadband so no problem streaming 4k.
As soon as streamed media bitrate is the same as physical, then it will be better. When they match it will start the slow death of all physical media, plus everyone needs to be on fibre as a min!
I think the home cinema industry is wondering whether to nerf 4k streaming for major movies, or at the very least release the latest movies earlier on a physical disk to make more money.
I don't think Sony have a dedicated 4k player, could be wrong, but if not then they may of already made their decision for streaming, Sony generally sets the format standards.
They are releasing a player in 2017, think it's been confirmed and will be shown at CES 2017.
Makes sense, I'd of picked my PS Pro up yesterday if it had a 4k player. Taking the plunge still, mainly for Skyrim, Dishonoured 2 and the Last of Us, and VR will improve in the future using the Pro.
4 x as powerful the GPU, but in real terms it hasn't blown anyone away.
The UHD player in the Xbox one s is extremely poor when compared to standalone players, it was a good why to get people to buy but not the best way to view 4k HDR.
It's actually a really good player, one site compared it to the Panasonic UB900 and it was nearly as good. Where did you hear it was poor? That's completely opposite of everything that I have read.

Stupid contest this... a fair contest would be the PS4 Pro(once developers figure out how best to use it's power) vs Project Scorpio.
