"Like for an inbox"
People always think of it a computer term now, whereas for years before and upto the present it's also been a humble plastic tray on a desk.

That would be an in-tray.
inbox is American-English.
could be worse, could be
"Letterbox me"![]()
I still have one of them and an outbox![]()
I have. Normally from city types who like to use cool words and often American ones. "Can I get a coffee". No you twit, you can buy a coffee.
People who say that are cool and they make me want to be just like them.
My pet hate in this area is "ping me"
Andi.
What if the server in the shop asks the question "What can I get you?", is it then acceptable to reply "Can I get a coffee"?
No because you are telling them you don't want them to get your coffee, you want to get it instead. The proper response to that question would simply be " A coffee please"
But the well-mannered one would be, "May I have a coffee, please?".
