I was reading about Winston Chrurchill recently and after watching The Crown on Netflix is was very evident that painting for relaxation helped him with his stress and depression.

Just watching a doc on channel 4 about The Rolling Stones and was amazed to find out that Ronnie Wood paints...

Now I for one are not very good at art...in the sense I cannot draw, but I'm guessing that's not the point?

Does anyone paint here ? I would love to see some of your artwork and discussions on what inspires you or any tips on where to start..

I paint. My latest creation below I call, Special Delivery.

No but wouldn't mind giving it a go. Wasn't good at drawing at school though maybe practice would improve that, I'm pretty sure it's a gift, or natural talent. Handwriting is awful also. Why is that?

Get some paint supplies and put on Bob Ross Netflix/Youtube. It won't matter if you can't match what he does, it will still be relaxing.

Not for about 10 years, I used to at school http://www.rcsmith.co.uk/canvas/venetian-waterway/. Although I recently took a landscape photo that I plan to make time for, it'll be quite interesting to see how the skills have diminished.

My sister and I both inherited some artistic genes and she has recently started a pet portrait business. https://www.instagram.com/mrsjoycedraws/

My biggest inspiration was always John Atkinson Grimshaw. If you like realistic landscapes, then take a look at his. http://www.johnatkinsongrimshaw.org/Autumn-Morning.html

Getting into it is easy. There's so many YouTube tutorials and guides to help with technique, but the main thing is to get yourself some resources, find a subject you want to interpret, put some music on and see what you create. It's extremely therapeutic.

Gord your artwork is exquisite. Do you earn a living from it?

Edit.

Just noticed you said you haven't painted for 10 years. People would definitely buy your work. I know I would.

Would I start with oils? Water? What ? Any links to cheap but good supply shops ?

That's fantastic Gord. I'm amazed at how you did the reflections so detailed and true. Tragic waste of talent if you don't paint. People would definitely buy art of that quality IMO. I'd rather pay 63 million for yours than that pile of vomit posted earlier.

Hobbycraft is excellent for art supplies. Well my local one is anyway.

I was always told to start off with watercolours by my art teacher at school.

Yeah, I dabble occasionally.

Some of the random pieces of **** around my house:-

I'm not creative, but I do get inspired - i.e. I don't have ideas of my own, but I'll see another piece of work that inspires me and I try to emulate it.

I like the one with the dolphins.

I used to dabble with Digital art, many years ago.

The good thing about digital art is no mess, and ctrl-z :)

The bad thing is that you spend even more time at the PC! Real painting has a certain allure to it, although do research whatever medium you are using, I think that oil paints have historically been rather toxic if not handled properly for example!

Some of my digital work (all done with a Wacom tablet and either Corel Painter or Adobe Photoshop).
