After over 5 years I have finally gotten to a problem I am stuck on.

Basically, I can't see anything blocking toilet but it flushes fine however water drains very slowly - can take 5 mins for it to get back to normal. Suggestions please?

I have tried all sorts of unholy things like:

and a heavy duty sink cleaner similar to this from B&Q:

None have helped - toilet was and is clean except for the blockage.

Caustic soda next? Or something called one-shot?

Blockage further down the line? Is it just the toilet that Is slow to drain?

Edit: one shot is probably the best chemical unblocker you can buy. Although it's extremely strong and must not be used with bleach as it will create clorhine gas :)

Possibly further down the line - i'll check drainage of the sink which has always been a bit slow and the shower has been a bit slow but I just assumed it was hair etc so was going to pour sink unblocker down it or something.

Might also be worth having a look in any manholes or access covers near to where the drain exits the building just to rule it out.

I had a similar problem, I tied a plastic bag on the end of a mop and used it as a plunger, you have to go at it hard but did the trick for me great.

I cleared a toilet doing that with a rod and disc but it was toilet that was blocked.

If that was my drain he cleared I would have got my 50 gall drum with lid cut off - placed it by manhole - filled it with water - then tipped it over into drain - a good flush like that will shift anything left behind.

Have to say it's not best job in world to have -unblocking drains is a poo of a job :D

use of baby swipes down the toilet and thick toilet rolls tissues don't help at all and will course blockage in the man hole over time. we live in a middle terraced house of 3 and we had the same problem and found it was blocked man hole in our front gardens which is shared with two other sides and took a day to unblock with a jet washer and some rods. it was found that the house to our right was the culprit as the female of the house took the responsible of throwing baby swipes down the toilet (the man hole was full of them) .babyswipes take a long time to degrade over time and with thick toilet paper and a load of sh@t don't help.:mind you she is a bit on the dippy side she from yorkshire :D

She uses those 'biodegradable' baby wipes? ;)

Flush the toilet and allow the bowl to fill up with fresh water and put a black bin bag over the end of a mop and use that as a plunger.

Job's a good'un!

Edit: One of the less gruesome videos:

Council video..... something dodgy, looks far too easy! lol

Take it from me, it works for the majority of situations. Far cheaper than buying tools and chemicals and you probably have some bin bags and a map waiting to be put into use. :D

I have a mop - had it since I bought the house and never used it lol. Quicker and easier to use wet wipes to clean kitchen floor lol. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Get two buckets, fill both with hot water. Launch first one down and wait to clear then launch 2nd down. Repeat as needed.
