Man punches 5 day old baby in face o_0

He got fined £900 after being found guilty of assault. They didnt buy his "its a doll" defense.

I think its a fair punishment for someone with no previous.

He should consider himself incredibly lucky, especially lucky he didn't get seriously assaulted by the babys father or even a passer by.

I think they knew he thought it was a doll but it was a crime none the less. Putting him in prison doesn't make anyone safer since he never intended to punch a real baby and is just a waste of resources. He has probably suffered the most in reputation and record more than anything.

It's a tricky one (and an odd one, as well).

Did he intend to cause damage to a child, no.
But law isn't based purely on intent, it would have been better if it had been a practice doll but it's still not the done thing to do.

Why would anyone in their right mind punch something resembling a baby, let alone someone else's in a crowded supermarket.

No idea how the guy got away with a pathetic fine for assaulting a baby in public??

What a joke our legal system is :(

Although i suspect the guy isn't of sound mind. In which case, why haven't they put him in hospital for tests?

There is no context here?

Was the "baby" screaming and wailing? Were the parents doing something bad to the kid that made the man think it was a doll?

Case seems really strange and maybe there is more to it than the thin reporting....
