I'm having a quarter life crisis

Very nice car, that M3 was in a beautiful colour.

Wonder what it's like living with a 991 compared to a 997/996?

Also with regards to Dr House, I don't recall you posting random threads, you seem to follow through with what you say and by the sounds of things you've worked hard and you're willing to share the fruits of your labour.

This sub forum being about cars is what it's all about, buying stupid cars or making impulse purchases that turn out either great or a complete waste of time and money. It's all about the journey in my opinion, that's what makes cars interesting and yet annoying and fun.

That's what I would say makes it hard to explain cars or car culture to some people.

The M3 is really nice, I have seen it a couple of times.

Re the 997/991.

So the 997.1 is not really all that nice to live with, crap nav, often broken, expensive to fix but its got a really nice or annoying (depends how you look at it) engine rattle that makes you think its broken. When you switch it on in the morning you will often get a big puff of white smoke. The interior is very dated but the car is quite raw compared to the 991. May as well get a 993

Every time you drive the car you have a fear in the back of your mind as to weather the car is going to go pop this time (my one did) and throw you a 17k + VAT bill.

Tip box is crap.

C2S is the pick of the bunch, C4S feels a little boring.

The 997.2
All the above has been fixed, nav is much better and usable but still not amazing.
The engine is rock solid and the car is generally reliable. The interior is much more comfortable. The PSE does not sound as good as the old 997.1 the car has got a little softer but the steering still has good feedback.

PDK is amazing manual is still good.

C2S again is the pick of the bunch.

991.1
Interior is much much nicer, very comfortable, the car now feels big, engine is rock solid like the 997.2. The handling is amazing, steering feel is quite poor. PSE sounds amazing again. The car is much softer and is now a GT car, the GTS is much more focused but still usable day to day.

PDK seems to have got even better.

Manual is supposed to be not all that good but I have not driven one.

C4S is supposed to be the better drives car.

991.2
I have not spent much time in it.
Nav is amazing (well as amazing as a porsche nav is going to get). interior feels a little better finished. The steering feel is back again. Engine sounds crap, PSE works quite well, its very fast, handles well, notable turbo lag. Porsche has robbed the life and sole out of the car. I would rather drive a 997.1 (wait for my thread where I post I just bought a 991.2lol)

PDK felt the same to me

So where is the sweet spot
997.2 GTS if you want something that is more focus but still good to use every day.
991.1 GTS4 if you want the best all round comfortable, modern car that is still a good drivers car.

Every morning I wake up hoping this car has sold. Its everything I want in a 911. I would simply move into the car and live in there. I can afford it, I love the colour, the spec ticks almost all my boxes but I just cant justify 100k on a non GT 911.

I could have my butler go out and buy 27 of these for me, but I drive a £1K MX5 because I like the colour. ;) :p

Looks fantastic as said in the other thread. Bet it doesn't sound as good as the M3 though! Nor is it as red!

Very nice car even better in the flesh although seeing it all I prefer the non £131 option, boring black key.

Knowing Vox, he is most annoyed that the commercial washing machine supplying the funding (inline with his plate...) won't fit in the boot...

Top post, will bookmark this for the day I'll have enough for one (a while away)

Make it happen, you don't want that M6 really do you... ;) :p

It's like before you settle down and get married you want to go and experience a bunch of hot girls who are not actually as much fun as the look like from a distance.

I'm just not quite ready for the GTS and it's too much money.

I don't want to apply the same comparison to my own car history. I don't think the girls would be all that. :p

But good point. Variation and trying things is good. :)
