Do you need a screen protector if the phone has Gorilla glass

I've never used one on any of my phones.

It's not going to stop a screen getting smashed and I've never had a visible scratch on a screen. I'm sure there are probably micro-scratches if I stuck one of my phones under a microscope, but nothing visible to the naked eye.

Yes definitely!

Gorilla glass isnt scratch proof at all, it just offers a certain level of scratch resistance.

Yes, because we all carry quartz-tipped scribers and opened stanley knives in our pockets.

And don't even get me started on those bend-tests. You'll be shocked to hear that my apparently snap-prone Nexus 6P still hasn't snapped.

I'm not saying you don't need a screen-protector - many feel the need and I don't judge them for it and many other don't - but those "tests" are utter ********.

And back in real life, it only took my Xperia phone one face down trip to the footwell of the car to come back with 3 scratches across the screen! Pretty sure there were no stanley's or sharp tool things down there! ;)

I don't use anything on my iPhone 7. And haven't had any scratches on the screen yet.

I live very close to the beach too. So there's a lot of sand round here (sand in the pockets is what usually causes scratches !)

Totally up to you. But I love the feel of a naked screen. Screen protectors and tempered glass just don't feel the same.

I didn't say that they were useless, just that those tests are an utterly ludicrous way of showing it.

Some will have had issues and want a screen protector as a result, and others have never had a need, but I guess there's a market for a reason.

Me, I suppose I must be more careful than others to have never suffered from a scratched screen, but I don't consider myself especially careful.

gorilla glass isn't scratch proof. so yes use one if you want maximum resale value of the phone and to protect the screen.

i buy them off aliexpress for peanuts. like £2 including shipping for a tempered glass one.

£2 is nothing to protect a screen. i do have insurance but i would rather not pay the £25 excess if possible and when you do get a screen replaced the phone is usually never the same as it was when it left the factory.

I've always question the use of screen protectors til last week.
Phone was sat on my desk at work charging and someone walked past catching the cable with their bag. Phone slid off table and landed fact down on the metal base/leg of my chair.
Screen protector shattered, screen of phone did not.

Which reminds me... Need to put replacement on!

(And yes the plastic ones are useless, the glass less so)

I always get a tempered glass screen protector for my phones. It offers another level of damage resistance. I'd rather pay £5-10 for a screen protector than £50+ for a new screen.

I always seem to end up with very tiny scratches (only noticable when looking closely), even on my 6P, so got tempered glass which will protect it.
