Apple to Introduce New Macs at October 27 Event

You should be able to buy the applecare until the original 1y warranty period expires.

At least this was the case couple of years ago when I was contemplating on getting the applecare for family 13" rmbp. Salesperson said that I have 12months to decide...
 
Decided today that I'm going with the 13" non touchbar model. For work I use function keys way to often for debugging that a touch screen would quickly become a huge pain point, and the benefit of extra battery life would be useful as I won't need a brick when I'm away from the office which happens 1-2 times a week.

As a benefit work is getting me a fully maxed out model. Tried them out in the apple store, I think the touchbar will be useful in a few years but right now unless you have that 1 app that makes great use of it is mostly a fun party tricky. I personally wanted Type-C and very much excited to be able to get a nice dock (TB docks always costed stupid amounts so I never used it). The keyboard from my short 10-20mins typing away felt really bad, I really hate the lack of travel and it feels harsh on my fingers as you have to bottom out, also its pretty loud no matter how you press a key which can be annoying when I'm up late on my laptop.

I think I might get a 15" for personal use next year when the price drops as my personal stuff is to demanding for a 13" laptop these days, but at work its more then enough.
 
I think the key travel is something that one gets used to.

For example when my old wired Apple-desktop keyboard started missing keystrokes last year, I bought the new Magic keyboard and it really felt awkward for a while.

Now I pulled the old wired keyboard from storage to adjust some bios settings and the long key travel felt really awkward. (BT keyboard doesn't work in bios for me). At the moment I'd say that the Magic keyboard key travel is better than the old wired keyboard key travel.

Now, on the new MBP / MB, keytravel is still way shorter, so for anyone coming from anything else than magic keyboard, it will feel even more odd.
 
I actually quite liked the keys when I tried the non Touch Bar 13" model they had out when I went to pick up my 7 Plus - I can only vaguely remember trying the keyboard on the MacBooks but this felt like an improvement and something I'd get used to quickly.

Also dat 5K LG Ultrafine display looks mighty fine - really tempting to go from my Mac Mini + 1200p monitor to MBP + LG 5K...

 
Which the display didn't include a web cam, I really hate the huge forehead on it, just ruins an otherwise simple plain design for me. However the setup looks really good.
 
Thinking of of the non-touch 13" as well now but just in base spec. Work has 8% discount with a shop and the shop has £100 off macbooks so works out a bit cheaper. A friend is going to buy my really old macbook pro 6.2 15" and I'll sell the Air 13" so not much cost to upgrade really. Was thinking of the memory upgrade but the price hike is just too much, would need to order it direct from Apple in that spec and lose out on the discounts.

Had a play with the 15" and it was really nice but still just a bit too big for me. I'd want to carry this with me to work most days.

got to try out the touchbar model as well. Was pretty cool in some of the apps that support it but just don't think the price hike is worth it for what I'll use it for. Some commands need multple touches as well like changing the volume. Click expand then change volume then click esc.
 
Been really unlucky with picking up a 15" MBP. 3 times I've purchased online for pickup same day but during the checkout process someones checked out before me leaving me with a Jan 4th collect time. Hopefully more stock tomorrow.

I ended up going for the base non touch 13" because it was available for $1299 at a local retailer and Best Buy price matched it.

I couldn't justify the extra cost of the touch bar version and the battery life is better on the non touch bar version as well.

So far it's a decent upgrade from my old 2010 MBP, the screen is really nice and now I'm used to it I like the keyboard. I do miss Magsafe though :(
 
Has the UK keyboard changed slightly on the new 2016 models ?

I believe mine has a UK keyboard as it has a pound sign on the 3 key, and has the UK shaped enter key although has command, option and control text written on the respective keys instead of the abbreviations I would expect a UK keyboard to have.

Not overly fussed, just interested.

Looks like it's been changed.
 
So it's now exactly the same as the US one?

I never understood why the UK one only had little icons on the keys rather than actually saying Option, Command, Control. Just seemed weird.

yeah the iris gpu is a bit of a step up. It's more powerful than the 7th gen HD gpu in things like the xps13
 
Has anyone received their new touchbar MBP's yet? Mine is still showing delivery 20th to 29th of December.

Just wondering if they tend to come early or exactly on time.

Ordered on the 14th Nov btw.
