*** Nintendo Switch ***

I agree with you megalomaniac, this absolutely needs to be a full replacement for the 3DS and Wii U. If it does capture both markets, I believe it will actually become more than the sum of its parts and will be a great success.

When you align the combined sales of the 3DS, Wii and Wii U with Sony's offerings over the same time period, they're not all that far off. The size of the market that bought in to the 3DS will make a massive difference to how it feels to be an owner of the Switch. It should be nothing like owning a Wii U, where you often felt like you were the only owner on the planet :p

To be fair the Wii is a complete anomaly here and shouldn't be taken into consideration. If anything - how a console could have sold so much and have so few good titles/3rd party support only proves the point further. Specs matter. And if the Switch was just a 3DS replacement, then i'd be all for it (although it boggles the mind why they skipped over Pascal seeing as how much it adds to battery life), but it's also replacing their home console. On a home console I expect full blown, flagship titles. My concern is we'll be getting this with first party games and games designed for handhelds from everyone else. Why spend big bucks making a AAA game for a single, low specced machine? The Switch is a hybrid machine and currently it looks like a great handheld crossed with a new Wii. As things stand I see Nintendo continuing in it's focus on party gaming - this is even creeping into flagship titles now - rather than focussing on core gamers in the way they did nes/snes/N64 and GC, and 3rd party developers ignoring the system beyond light-weight games on the move.

Well I was hoping the Switch would replace my PS4 and I would have it as my second platform with my PC. As it stands it's just going to be a Nintendo device.

PC was always going to be my main device but if something like the new Mass Effect was to release on the Switch i'd consider buying it on that just so I could take it around with me.

Is it definitely confirmed to not be using Pascal? Originally reports said pascal now they say Maxwell.

that's why people are worried /sceptical about the switch

If it's as powerful as a Wii U as a portable console, that's all good for me. I have no interest in 3rd party games period.

Out of interest, why? I've read this a fair amount in this thread. 3rd party games will attract more gamers and more gamers means a greater number of better games. Win win. I'd argue it'd also mean better Nintendo games.

Will it though? I'm not going to buy another copy of Fifa (for example) for the the Switch because I like many others no doubt, already own a copy of it for their PC/PS4/Xbox's.

For me, I just want to play Nintendo games on a Nintendo console.

The direction Nintendo push their games seems to vary depending on a given consoles user base. We definitely had more 'gamer games' on the systems that attracted a broader spectrum of people. Things like Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Metroid Prime etc. And they released more traditional style games too - F-Zero, Wave Race, 1080 etc. All great stuff. These days we're getting more watered down, child friendly Nintendo games. The qualitie's there, but the focus has shifted. I don't want a Fifa or CoD either, but would like them to start making 'proper' gamer focused games you can get your teeth stuck into again. The new Zelda will be one - i'd like a tonne more. We won't get that if the user base is made of Pokemon and Mario Kart fans.

We're getting "gamer games" as you put it in the form of a new Zelda and a new Mario so......

And I'll put money on a Switch version of Pokemon selling more than F-Zero, Metroid and Wave Race combined.

Do you have any examples of "proper" gamer focused games?

What's wrong with Mario Kart and Pokemon fans? Nintendo know where the money is. I'll be buying those versions day one when they are announced/released.

At the end of the day its not very powerful. End of story.

If you accept this then move on to the games side and forget all the power issues as nothing will change it. People should be focusing on the games side now.

I'm not currently thinking of buying one (got a ps4 pro and pc) but Zelda and Mario have the power to change my mind if they're good. Zelda ocarina of time was my all time favourite game.

We'll see how the new Mario pans out. I didn't count the recent 3D World as one, for example. Plus that's just two games. We always get a Zelda and a Mario. It's a given. When they start hitting us up with proper versions of Star Fox, Pilot Wings, F-Zero, 1080, Wave Race, Fire Emblem etc and, god forbid, something new, I'll get back to you. This is a company that was coming out with great IPs faster and more frequently than anyone else. Look at them now.

Maybe those IP's didn't sell as well hence why other versions weren't made? There has to be a demand for these games at the end of the day. The only one I've seen people say they'd like more than any other is Metroid. And for all we know, they could make one for the Switch. But if they don't, then it's not Nintendo's fault.

Given your responses, I really do think you're setting yourself up for disappointment in regards to this next offering from Nintendo.

People have such mad expectations from a portable console.

I'm not expecting a portable PS4 but it would've been nice if it wasn't far behind them. I've Pre-ordered one and I'm still going to use it as my main console going forward as Nintendo have more exclusives I care about vs the others

Expecting it to be 16nm and Pascal which will have been around nearly a year by the time the Switch comes out is no a "mad expectation". I suppose an unreasonable one, as it is Nintendo I guess...

I am buying it either way, but if it is a lower spec than Tegra X1 which came out Q2 2015 according to wikipedia, then that is disappoint to me. That said I will not be thinking of any of that when enjoying Zelda :p:D

As long as it gets lots of games on it then I will be happy in the end.

Takes longer than a year to develop a console.

Anyway u don't really care. Those long haul flights with a 3D Mario. Please give me now.

I'm not saying it won't need 3rd party support, it likely will. For me personally though I just have no interest in playing non Nintendo games on it. I realise this limits me somewhat with how many games are available to me, but it didn't worry me for the Wii.

My only real complaint is Nintendo rehashing IPs over and over. They need some new ideas on that front for sure.

If Zelda is good and the new Mario is as good as 64, I'll buy in a heartbeat.

Anything else will be gravy but I understand people's concerns. The worst thing about being a Vita owner was the darth of good games at times. Hopefully Switch avoids this...

I'm prepared this time. The Switch will be the first Nintendo console since the nes, both home and handheld (and often multiple times in different colours!), I don't buy at launch. It just baffles me a little when people say all they want are Nintendo games when Nintendo are releasing so few these days, and from such a small no. of their IPs. The other franchises I mentioned were pretty popular btw - and would have been more so today if they hadn't been dropped completely for two generations. Imagine how great a proper Pilot Wings, with online challenges and co-op play, could be on the Switch! And something new .. come on Nintendo, blow us away with something new!

Anyways - i'll stop ****ing on bonfires now :D
