I've been out of the gaming scene for 4 or so years. Last console I owned was a PS3.

I have a 1080p TV (not 4k).

Shall I buy the cheaper PS4 Slim or shall I buy the more expensive PS4 Pro?

I know the PS4 Pro comes with hardware upgrades. Are they worth it?

Thanks

I would say go for the slim if you aren't planning on upgrading your TV any time soon and/or would be better saving money

I was in a similar place a few months ago before the Pro came out.

I personally went for the Slim even though I have a 4k TV.

Games still look amazing on it and given the recent reviews where some games really don't benefit from the upgrades, it don't think it's worth the extra cash.

Maybe the newer games which have been built for the new hardware will perform better but personally, I think 1080p still looks great.

Right now there are some very good deals on the slim so if you want the best bang for buck then I'd lean towards that or hold fire until some decent PS4 Pro offers come up.

That said, I bought a PS4 Pro yesterday as I knew I'd end up upgrading at some point anyway so I figured I might as well just get it over with rather than go through the hassle of selling a slim in 6-12 months.

If the price difference between the Slim and Pro is negligible and/or you plan to get a Pro in the future...just buy the Pro.

I'd go for the Pro no question. More future proof (for when you do upgrade to 4k, if you do) but also for better running games at 1080p. There are games that only have a stable frame rate at 1080p on the Pro, for example.

I'm struggling to justify buying a PS4 Pro. Ideally I'd like to buy the console tomorrow to treat myself over the Christmas break.

The PS4 Pro 1 TB + No Games = £350.00

The PS4 Slim 1TB + 3 Games = £280.00

I won't be upgrading my 1080p TV until 2018 at the earliest.

I'd get the pro anyway. It's only a matter of time until some very important new games are much better on the pro. All we have at the moment is patched old games that weren't made for the pro.

and you'll most likely never get a game made for the pro, the playerbase is tiny compared to the regular ps4's and doesn't exactly have years to grow. what you have now is what you're getting. it's just a console thrown out there to take money from iphone generation. Slim all the way!

For the sake of £70 it's still a complete no brainer to me. Better experience and more future proof. If it was double the price i'd understand the dilemma.

More than 70 quid. One has three games, one has none.

Where is that slim offer??

PRO,PRO, PRO, PRO!!

I thought we was all tech heads on here. Tech heads settle for nothing but the best.

Games wont be made for the pro exactly - Sony have clearly said that the games will work on both PS4 consoles but there are improvements to games for those using a pro.

The Last Guardian is a great example and, at 1080P, showed a much better framerate than on the slim as well as a better experience with 4K improvements.

Also the player base is tiny because the pro has only just been released and it is more likely, now that the pro is released, for developers to design in improvements during a games actual development rather than release patches to add extra features...which btw is a hassle for them that produces little, if any, extra revenue.

Hasn't there also been reported issues where the pro runs games in 1080p worse than a regular PS4??
