There's a difference between neutralising an active threat/enemy and murdering someone in cold blood. The way he did this is just awful and he deserves the punishment. No question.

As soon as we stoop to the same level as the Taliban, isis etc then we have lost and they have won. That's why this is more important than ever.

My opinion is lock him up and throw away the key, if he is convicted properly through the avenues of our justice system.

He broke the Geneva Convention and disregarded the RoE, killed a wounded, unarmed enemy combatant - his choice - from the video it was premeditated and he deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

The mouth breathing Daily Fail readers who back our troops need to understand that he has disrespected everything our Armed Forces stands for.

I know of men who have taken life needlessly in other conflicts.

I can assure you they live with the mark of Cain upon them.

If someone surrenders to you then remember they have that right in international law and ensure that one day they go home to their family.

The ones who wish to fight, well, we aim to please.

If you harm the regiment or its history by over-enthusiasm in killing or in cowardice, know it is your family who will suffer.

You will be shunned unless your conduct is of the highest - for your deeds will follow you down through history.

We will bring shame on neither our uniform or our nation.

Colonel Tim Collins, 1st Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, Iraq 2003.

It is murder because he was neutralised and unarmed. You would be outraged if ISIS just put a bullet in an injured soldier.

This is exactly how I see it.

What annoyed me more than anything was the way it was handled by BBC news - like he was being hard done by and his wife being interviewed saying she hopes he is released. I'm sure it's very difficult for all those involved but the "unbiased" BBC didn't seem to make too much effort to point out the guy had effectively murdered someone.

BBC like any other media outlet, wants to whip up controversy it sells stories and creates new ones for the future as the situation developed.

Marine punished for killing unarmed combatant doesn't exactly draw much of a reaction.

It's a difficult one. Can any of you honestly say that if you were faced with the man that had killed your friends, colleagues and potentially family you too wouldn't want to put a bullet in them? I know I would want to. Heck I'd want to do worse.
And that's me not I the high stress, high volatility situations he's in.

I'd probably feel very similar but then you've got to accept the fact that you know the rules especially as you're pointing them out while carrying it out and if caught you will be punished accordingly. Not start bawwing about the injustice.

Lol duese you crossed a whole new line on this thread well done.

In your opinion.

By us having the moral high ground it allows our soldiers to Willy nilly invade these peoples countries if we start acting on their level we just become aggressors intheir lands.

The Government of the day sends the Army in not the solders. You do know that....don't you?

The guy should be punished according to our laws. Why on earth you would want to be a soldier in a modern army I have no idea.

Who said that? not me. Adding and twisting words..AGAIN.

This is exactly the point I was making to my wife too. It's very easy for us to sit in our nice comfortable homes and pass judgement but the fact is we don't know what we'd have done in that situation. The fact is that the law is the law, no getting around it, but his actions *might* have been excuseable, that guy might have just been waving an assault rifle at them seconds prior, we don't know.

It is a difficult one, no shadow of a doubt, however the point that makes it clear to me, is he literally states 'I just broke the geneva convention'

Sealed. No defence. He was well aware of what he had just done.

Brings the forces into disrepute, and makes us look just as bad as said taliban for killing an (at this point) mortally wounded (potential)prisoner.

I swear we have some people in here who were defending the prison rioters yet are asking for this guys balls to be nailed to the wall!

Don't be so dim, he never implied that you said that.

You do know that when in a debate someone answers you with the word "YOU" they are talking to..well me.

But now I know you've lost the debate as you've started calling members names which against the rules.

Hold on a moment. You broke a forum rule. Are you going to ask a mod to ban you?
I mean you do want all solders and forum members to follow the rules..don't you? ;)
