Carrie Fisher - Heart Attack - Now deceased

I don't usually post in threads like this one, because anything I write feels very trite. I don't know these people, just the public persona and the parts they play, which gives a false sense of intimacy, a personal connection that isn't there. People I don't know die all the time, so any words seem meaningless coming from a stranger. But this news teared me up. I was hoping against the odds that she would pull through.

When Star Wars came out, I was nine years old, and I experienced the kick start of a whole new type of film, and the birth of the visual effects industry that would colour films from that moment on. Cinema would never be the same again, the stories they tell would be bigger than before. A generation got a fairytale of their own, with heroic knights, evil kings, magic, rogues, and battles between good and evil, dressed up in a science fiction universe we'd never seen on screen before, and one that's lasted forty years. Carrie Fisher was always that story's first princess, but one that was every bit as heroic as the knights.

Carrie Fisher was a damaged person, broken by Hollywood and her own issues with mental and physical health, her drug issues well known. These last few years, she did seem to be in a happier place, finally accepting of herself. You only have to watch any of her recent interviews to see what a funny, sassy, clever and genuinely nice person she seemed to be. Her profile was raised with the release of The Force Awakens, so it seems so much sadder to me that she couldn't enjoy much time in a better place before this tragedy struck. She seemed healthier and happier, and at the relatively young age of 60, was an international treasure adored not just because of her role as Leia, but because of having to battle her personal demons throughout her life to finally get to a place of peace.

May the Force be with you Princess Leia, but godspeed to the next life Carrie Fisher.

Really thought she'd dodged the bullet after it was reported she was stable - it's almost as if a stormtrooper has actually hit something :(

Damnit... RIP :(

All these 2016 comments though, it isn't going to stop when 2017 comes around. Things happen, and there are lots of well known and loved people who are sadly unwell or old aged.

It just seems this year from a celeb point of view has been worse than any other if you base it on past 5 years alone, i dont ever recall this many celebs going in 1 year.
