The Russians hacking the US

As dodgy as Rumsfeld or the Bush JR administration?

Rumsfeld used exactly the same set up as Hillary (Private server) whilst the Bush Jr administration may have used official servers but apparently didn't archive any of the emails like they were meant to for a number of years (the excuse being they couldn't get them to back up using the systems that the Clinton Administration had used*) despite it being legally required as they were government documents.

As did Colin Powell. But the laws were brought in to stop people doing this. I mean doctors used to prescribe Heroin as well but they stopped doing that. Those are not charged with a crime because they weren't knowingly subverting laws and you can't retroactively charge people for what wasn't illegal at the time. Hillary knowingly violated the laws.

Yep. That story came from the Washington Post, iirc. They've since been forced to put a grudging non-apology on the top of the story. Seems what actually happened was that they found some malware and that malware is on the list of possible malware used by gangs in Russia. As well as everyone else who uses malware.

More interesting and loltastic was the frothy reply from US politicians:

Politicians in Vermont, including the Democrat Governor, Peter Shumlin, are calling for a full investigation into the incident.
"Vermonters and all Americans should be both alarmed and outraged that one of the world's leading thugs, [Russian President] Vladimir Putin, has been attempting to hack our electric grid, which we rely upon to support our quality-of-life, economy, health, and safety," he said in a statement.
Democratic congressman Peter Welch said the discovery showed "how rampant Russian hacking is".
"It's systemic, relentless, predatory," he added.

Hmm. Nitro Zeus / Operation Olympic Games, anyone? Not to mention PRISM, TEMPORA, XKeyscore and many others.

Systemic, relentless and predatory indeed... What's that old saying about glass houses and stones? Not to mention geese and ganders. :o

A lot of Russian hacks are probably individuals who have nothing to do with the Russian government anyway, how many of our citizens have been extradited for hacking US systems over the last few years?

As has been said multiple times in this thread, there is no proof that Russia 'hacked' the DNC. Wikileaks even said that it wasn't them that gave the information, and almost confirmed that it was a guy called Seth Rich, that was killed a couple of weeks later in an 'apparent robbery' - despite nothing being taken.

I'm sure Obama is trying to poison the relationship between Russia and the US for lots of reasons.. Hillary not getting elected, thus not being able to carrying on where he left off. Syrian peace brokered without the US, the US had to be excluded as they were actively protecting Al-Nusra - as it's always been the US's plan for regime change in Syria. Probably lots of other reasons, Obama is like a two year old that didn't get his way.

And yes I do agree that both the US and Russia have cyber warfare divisions, but you can bet the US's division is orders of magnitude larger than Russia's. They will be guilty of something sure, but 'hacking' the DNC isn't one of them. As has been said, if they had evidence, ANY EVIDENCE, they would be parading it for all the world to see, hence they hide behind multiple reports full of clauses/qualifiers and weasel words with nothing to back up any of their claims.

Putin has taken the moral high ground to hopefully get a reset of relations between them when Trump takes office, the world really needs it!

TLDR - It didn't happen, and Obama is having a paddy about Syria/Clinton not getting elected.
