Do you think intel should sell their cpu's cheap in the UK just so you don't feel all **** hurt about the £/$ rate dropping at lot in recent years?

Is your 2500k in i7 'ruining' mode yet?

No I think Intel should put all it's efforts into increasing performance. Then the price hike might seem worth it :p I'll give you my 2500K so you can upgrade too
 
There is no price hike from Intel jigger. There is just a drop in the value of the £ vs the $.

Are you feeling OK? Try going outside, the fresh air might help clear your head... :p

Kaby £50 more than Sky. Xeon i7's less than both. Prices have gone up.
 
Its £50 more because the pound is worth less against the dollar, and Intel surprising enough are an American company?

Not sure what a 'Xeon i7' is, but the Xeon E3 1200's have been comparable in price for the past few years as well. As far as I know there is no official pricing for the Kabylake E3-12XX V6 yet anyway...

I get the impression that this 'debate' is pointless and will prove fruitless for everyone involved...
 
Some of you guys need to get over pricing - seems to be all I read at times whether it's CPU's or GPU's (Nvidiia mostly)

Skylake is now lower priced as it's coming to the end of it's lifespan. If it wasn't for the 7700 arriving it would likely be the same price as it - so comparing a new evolution of a processor to one that's been on the market for 1.5-2 years or whatever on pricing is pointless. It doesn't mean the 7700 has had a price hike just because the 1.5-2 year old processor is now a little lower

I'm sure the £ whingers are brexit voters too who trying to deny they've shot themselves in the foot. Things will get worse, I can't wait for tax rises to help pay for it all :D. And people seem to say anything to try to prove they're right.

And it's only £25-50 a most anyway! That's nothing, I'm sure you some of you waste that amount without thinking about it....

Brits expect it all and feel entitled for some reason too. Stop being so self focused. Imagine for example you ran your own company, what would you do with pricing too? And don't say "I'd reduce the price"
Feel sorry for the OCUK staff - must do their heads in :D

Because Kaby's a very boring refresh made even worse by the exchange rate.

The wink thread hasn't been around for ages, creating hype for this is lacklustre.

The best part of Kaby is that Pentiums have HT.
You can't exactly say it's anything less than a stellar chip, but it's just more of the same.

It's more than that - it's along the lines of people trying to convince themselves what they have is best - like 980 TI vs 1080 all over again :).

I have the 6700 bought recently but the 7700K is the better chip. Not everyone only uses for gaming either so some of the little changes add up for some folks who will benefit from them.

With what cards and which games tho? Some games show bigger difference due to CPU & lots of variables make a difference. I wouldn't personally upgrade from a 6700 to it but it's the better chip and if someone in the market right now go for the new one! Don't base decision on a few third party benchmarks as those are flawed anyway. Playing a scripted sequence is not the same as random real life gameplay for example and there are thousands of games out there vs the tiny selection used in benchmarks- but wont go wrong picking up the latest CPU as long as price not stupid, and it's not.

Haven't seen game benchmarks where it makes a positive difference yet. A collection of benchmarks released yesterday (IIRC) showed Kaby Lake within 1% of Skylake in productivity workloads and slightly slower than Skylake in games at the same clock speed.

Yes but as Martini1991 said, it's a "boring refresh". Still 4 cores all these years on, still crappy TIM meaning you have to delid to overclock it to its full potential without starting a fire, still a price premium for the unlocked version, expensive motherboards, no IPC increase, no price drops (prices are high right now mostly because of the pound but that doesn't change this fact)...

Every card and every game. Clock for clock the 6700K and 7700K are identical.

The max overclock is a couple of hundred mhz more and it's about £25 more. Doing the math and it's about an 8% performance improvement for a 7% cost increase. (assuming 4.6 sky vs 5 kaby)
 
I'm still sceptical that most can buy a i7-7700K and get 5 GHz out of it without delidding or anything. If 4.8 GHz is the norm then it's an even worse proposition compared to Skylake.
 
History is not going to look back kindly upon this. It seems to be the dark pinnacle of years of ever diminishing performance increments between generations. Perhaps the silver lining is that it surely can't get any worse? With 6-cores from Intel on the horizon, and if AMD can get back in to the game, we can only hope this will drive performance up and prices down. So I think we just have to bear it for now... it sucks, but there is a glimmer of light at the end of this very dark and dismal tunnel.
 
I think we need a technological breakthrough in the way the chips are manufactured before we see any massive gains like years ago... :(
