*** Nintendo Switch ***

My initial reacotion to the first trailer was scepticism. I really thought most people would be underwhelmed by the device but listening to podcasts and reading forums there was much more hype for this than expected. Off the back of this I thought I was being a bit harsh and started to join the hype train and was considering buying one when £200.00 was touted.

One of the main draws for me was having this thing on the coffee table and being able to play a bit of split screen Mario Cart with my wife. It looked like a good device to take on holiday for the evenings, we could sit with a drink and play a game together rather than cards.

The problem I think is that they have tried to make this device all things to all men and so it will be mediocre in all areas. Hardcore gamers are not impressed by the lack of gfx power and the multiplayer Wii style stuff for casuals and famalies seems like nothing new and rather simple.

If the price drops suitably I might be game at the moment that battery life is putting quite a damper on things. An android tablet and emulator is still a better option for portable multiplayer gaming.

My Prediction: This is going to have shocking launch sales and probably bad sales generally until they get the price down. A lot of people will be looking at this as a handheld console and will not want to pay more than £200

I expect a similar situation to when 3DS was launched where they had to drop the price fast to stop a major fail from happening

I agree. For non-enthusiasts who on earth is going to opt for a Nintendo switch over a cheaper PS4 and Xbox with cheaper games. It's not like they are all launching at ththe same time.

I do want Nintendo to just focus on software but I think fandom and support will slowly dry up when people are then compare, say, Yoshi's woolly world and captain toads treasure tracker with witcher 3 and tomb raider...

They are surviving on their goodwill (which clearly died from me a long time ago). Was going to buy for Zelda but I found skyward sword underwhelming so will wait for reviews, probably opting to pay most attention to gamespot who seem less forgiving than ign.

If Nintendo had managed to get this out the door with Mario prior to Christmas they might have jumpstarted something. I fear for them launching at this time of year without a solid set of games.

Yeah I've pre-ordered but won't pay £80 on principle. It'll have to reduce, buy elsewhere or cancel the whole lot.

Indeed. Seriously doubt amazon will keep that price though. They will reduce to match others as they often do, so expect to pay £60 or less :)

I walked straight into that...
But why would it be £400 fir the pro controller and switch? The pro controller is only like £60 or so?

Also, lets say you take the switch with you whislt you travel abroad, how can one charge this? Do you have to take the original docking charger with you on the move?

I'm amazed people are moaning about the line-up...Zelda is the main launch game, it will be enormous. It's not like it will be completable in a week.

I've just watched the presentations for ARMs, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Bomberman. All of them look like a lot of fun! Plus has anyone seen Sonic Mania?!! OMG

Also with a new Metroid Prime confirmed as well...ahhh this is looking like to be an excellent console with great games :)

Due to getting married and other priorities, I won't be buying one until the summer. Cannot wait :)

I'll see if I can find out EU pricing today, for anyone interested.

Launch PS4 is £400? PS2 was £500.

The Wii was £250 for years.

£280 launch is normal?

/wait for but the expected PS4 is more powerful reply

Haha. Not done that in like years :D

No idea why it would be £400 with the pro controller, maybe that someone is talking out their backside :)

I am not really interested in the pro controller at those kind of prices. Having owned a Wii U and the pro controller for it, I can tell you it would not have made much difference having had one or not in the games I played on it.

It's USB charging. Just use the same charger you'll take for your phone :)

Also as others have said...PS4 had 2 launch games...look how well that's gone :p

I seem to recall it had ports of almost major third party games, it had COD and FIFA and guaranteed 3rd party support.

Switch has a game also coming out on the Wii U and some enhanced Wii U ports
