*** Nintendo Switch ***

Apple have been really halfhearted about gaming on iOS. They have a total walled garden, the just need a better gaming hub, decent integration to be mandatory with all apps and a good controller.

Nintendo have essentially ended up with the worst aspects of both home and portable consoles here.

Very under powered for a home console and incredibly overpriced and low battery life for a handheld.

I really think this is going to do badly, but who knows

Worrying line up, and an even more worrying release price. The Wii U had a Mario game, didn't save it .... can Zelda alone do it? Where are the 3rd party games that their supposed 'partners' are developing?

£280 is far in excess of other handhelds and is competing with other home consoles at that price point. Wii U MK2 incoming I fear.

£60 for games as well? That's back to the N64 days.

AM I missing something, Nintendo are confirming literally 2 games for actual launch day, Zelda and the completely awful looking gun fight/quick draw game? The other 5 aren't even confirmed for the 3rd and Mario Kart 8, which came out in May 2014... isn't ready till the end of April. What kind of utter joke is that.

Skyrim which was shown in the early videos and has been out for absolute years, won't be ready till the end of the year, as well as a new Mario game. How quickly did they throw this thing together and how little money did they throw at devs to get devs to port games so slowly?

That's the issue I see here - a lot of the negativity is coming from those who bought the Wii U.

For me (and others but I can't comment for them) who skipped the U, I look at the line up and think that's perfectly acceptable.

I dunno, I guess people take these things a lot more seriously than I do where it just isn't an issue for me.

This is also my thinking, it doesn't excel in either area. The main feature is the fact you can game on your telly and then take the game with you the next morning on your commute. That is the strongest point but I don't know it is enough to shift units to a wide audience.

This, essentially is how I feel. There's no middle ground any more. 'Portable games' are now thought of as those terrible Freemium IAP money hungry games. That's a massive shame. If Apple got some decent titles on there it would be the only console I would need other than my PC lol.

Still, the iPad comparison is a harsh one for Nintendo. The Switch, as a piece of hardware, is unfortunately lacking in most respects.

I still want to get the Switch. But I'm not going to get it at launch. And the majority of launch titles don't excite me all that much.

Line up is fine for me, perhaps even a little too much too soon. The price is the issue for me, in the sense that they've positioned themselves above well established consoles. I think this will sell out on launch but only due to low stock availability. Interest will then drop and they'll be in a difficult position without a price drop.

What a terrible lineup, probably as bad as the Wii U. Only reason to get this is Zelda and not many people buy a console for just one game. Without the third party developers this is just going to fail like the Wii U.

not even close.

LIterally so far confirmed launch games are Zelda (it now needs to be literally the best game ever made to save Switch... also the Wii U version withdrawn from sale) and the quick draw game. That is it.

Wii U in the uk (it had more in the US it seems) had Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Fifa, COD, Batman all from third parties plus a bunch more then from Nintendo you had an actual Mario game for launch day in Mario Bros U which while short and dull, is better than no new Mario game at all for launch day. Switch won't even get Mario Kart for the best part of 2 months, an actual new Mario game for what 8-9 months.

Wii U launch line up was monumentally better than Switch.

People have been banging on defending the Switch as it will sell because of nintendo IP... the problem is Nintendo seem to have forgotten to release a bunch of Nintendo IP with the Switch this time.

I mean, Wii U was widely said to have died because of lack of third party support, yet Wii U third party support looks insanely good in comparison to the Switch.

Only saw part of the presentation so not sure if this was mentioned or not but does the dock do anything more than act as the charging dock and hdmi socket? If not, how are they justifying $90 for an additional dock, charger and hdmi cable?

I was very interesting this but it's too pricy for me sadly, will be waiting until it's cheaper methinks.

Really?

The launch lineup is fine for you?

Skylanders Imaginators

I mean, yeah, why would you want games to play on your new system on launch day.

The dock is basically a chunk of plastic with a fan, hdmi pass through and usb port. The thing can't be costing them more than about a tenner to mass produce

Does absolutely nothing extra, how are they justifying the dock for $90, a new joycon controller set for $80 or a pro controller(the only good one, that you don't get as standard) for $70. Nintendo accessories make Apple look fair in their pricing ffs. Almost everyone seems to be calling Nintendo pricing an utter joke, more for accessories than the console itself, but both are bad.

I don't buy them at launch unless there is something special. I let the fools pay full price for their systems and games.

Why don't you just buy Zelda on the WiiU instead of buying and selling a whole console for the same game?

Fools? lol.

I sold my Wii U last year at a nice price. I was hoping that the new console would be more powerful and thus the new Zelda would graphically look much better on it. Not sure that is going to be the case now but oh well.

Way I see it is, I am still better off, as I got a lot more money for my Wii U and the games accessories etc when I sold it then I would do if I sold it in a couple of months time after completing Zelda. Now I will be getting the new console on launch, enjoying it for a month or so and selling it on most likely unless I find it doubles up well as a good browser or something. The loss I will make buying and selling a Switch and Zelda will be less compared to the loss via devaluation of the Wii U. No fool here ;)

Zelda is 900p in docked mode and 720p in portable mode.

Really? The launch lineup is fine for you?

For me personally yes, as I'd spend the best part of a month or two playing Zelda, then onto MK8 for a good chunk of time, perhaps Bomberman and Arms which look fun.

It's the section after the main games are released that concerns me, though I suppose we could eventually get a 2nd Zelda or Mario way down the line.
