*** Nintendo Switch ***

They didn't announce a fully fledged Fifa though.

That's my point! People say why would you want another PS4/Xbox box. The USP of this is to use at home and on the road, if it was powerful enough and got the support to run FIFA on the go, most kids in the playground would have one! Instead they will stick to their ps4's and xboxs

Let's pretend Nintendo's new console is this instead.

Nintendo announce the N-T !!!!

T for Teraflops

In it you will find a 5 teraflops CPU etc with 8G of RAM, online functionality, 1TB HDD and Bluray drive with HDR and 1 pad.

Games you can play - FIFA 17, Tomb Raider, Mine Craft, every non exclusive game you can already play on the PS4 and Xbox One.

And even if it isn't but has all the Nintendo exclusives, I'll buy it before I buy an Xbox again (including the Scorpio)

Yours for £349.99.

Who is going to get this when you probably have those games on the other 2 consoles? The people who wants Mario will get a Nintendo regardless of spec, regardless of design. To me, announce another clone Intel box isn't going to sell.

If it was in the same format as the switch, I'll sell my PS4 and buy it.

And if it wasn't, I'd buy it before an Xbox again, due to Nintendo exclusives.

My 7 year old nephew won't. If he could play FIFA, a good racing game and mine craft it would replace his Xbox one Snand he'd be desperate to. but as it is, he'll have his Xbox and just use his tablet for crap games on the go, rather than spend 400 quid for playing crap games on the go.

So your entire strategy is to create a clone box to the Xbox to run the same games?

Think about that for a second, to pull people away who have Xbox One from the SAME games.

Think about how much that would cost to buy for the "nephew"

Think about how long the battery would last.

Yes, let's release a £500 handheld console that lasts 90mins on the go to tempt those people to buy all the same games they already got again.

Is that people's strategy?

Or is the strategy to make something different so people can play something new?

You can still buy it for the exclusives. Save up £1 a day, you can buy one for your nephew before his summer holiday starts.

Same games, plus Nintendo exclusives and portable? You're damn right people would buy it in their droves!

You telling me you offer a 10 year old boy, Fifa, COD, NFS, splatoon, Zelda and Mario they can play on their TV and then take it with them they won't bite your hand off for it?

And your missing the point, it's not to buy the same game like FIFA twice, its to only buy it on the switch!! If it had third party support then it would REPLACE xboxs and ps4's. not everyone buys 18 consoles.

Instead you can have Only Nintendo games and sell your Xbox for it, yeah I can see where my logic breaks down.

And many folk said battery life wasn't important, just take portable battery packs with you.

People don't want a brand new way of playing, surely the WiiU was an example of that.

Make a more powerful console than an Xbox One, PS4 and have all third party plus very high quality Nintendo titles and it's a win.

Nobody wants to stand there waving their arms around in front of a handheld with all their friends. It just doesn't happen.

You could argue it's a solid hand held but again the battery life makes it pointless.

I'm calling a flop once the initial month of hype dies. These will flood the used market within a few months.

I wouldn't know, when I was 10 I was given a Mega Drive, when the SNES came out I just asked for the SNES. That's what kids do, because i thought Mario was fun. I certainly didn't buy the same games again. I didn't sell the Mega Drive to buy the SNES either, i was 10!

Or I could buy him a tablet and 6 games for his Xbox?? Tough choice innit.

Every kid and his dog has a tablet of sorts already surely.

Changed mine to a neon console. Added mario kart to the pre order and also the accessory kit from game.

Unsure whether to add pro controller or the 2 sticky majigs.

Well you were very privileged. Not everyone can get two 300-400 quid consoles and the games to go with them . When I was young I had a mega drive. My next console was a ps, then I was buying consoles on my own.

Yeah and kids being kids break them quite regularly too. Every kid and his dog these days also has a home console? Why change it for a smaller games catalogue?

I think I will hold out at least a year before purchasing the switch, the launch line up looks weak and the prices are bit of joke £70 for a pro controller?

Paid online service where you have to use your phone and the free games only last a month? So what am i paying for?!

I really hope they don't messed this up...

Think I'll probably cancel my pre order and see if they make improvements to it over the next 18 months and if third party support drops quickly like the wii u did.

I recall the SNES was £110 or something. Sure, the scale of inflation also has to be taken into account. In truth I am not from a privileged background, I didn't get any consoles as presents after that until I bought myself a PS1 with my uni loan. Missed the N64, GC and all that.

Like I paid £170 for the PS1?

Consoles gets more expensive over the years, as expected.

So I was a little miffed at this this morning. But then reminded myself it's a bloody handheld. I have a 27 hour journey in May, plus the return. This is worth it's weight in gold to me. I'm always travelling somewhere.

I just need it confirmed that it can charge via USB/Power bank and I'm in.

Edit - looks like USB C. I'm in.

I think if you and me which we both were really looking forward to the Switch felt miffed, it says a lot. Yes, I am still really looking forward to getting my hands on it, but I would have been much more happy had they got pricing and launch line up right without any other change, or even just launch line up.

So disappointing

Price - too much for a secondary console
Don't need portability
No games! Or a games release schedule that fills me with hope
Nintendo have learnt nothing

I don't mind gimmicks, but I want more than 2 games to play, and I want to acknowledge that I can't play the AAA games on it, but then I expect it to be much cheaper

I'm just going to pick up a cheap wii u when they stone in price, and play Zelda, Mario Kart 8 etc, as I missed the last generation.

The graphics of the Switch don't look that much of a step up, and therefore for people who DONT want the portability, its hamstrung from the start.

They learnt NOTHING from the WII U, honestly.

I'm not calling for a xbox clone, but they've had long enough after dropping the WII U so long ago, can you imagine a launch of

£250, with a choice of games from a new mario, new zelda, new f zero, new mario kart, new donkey kong, splatoon, metroid and a pikmin. That would be enough to go "hey I don't care if no other games come out, take my £500 (with games) and I'm happy.

I'm just angry with Nintendo now, I want to play the games of my childhood, and I'm prepared to look past the gimmicks, but they are too many "rules of entry"

This guy sums it up well, no shouting
