*** Nintendo Switch ***

I have not seen one marketing or comment that it is a tablet, apart from having a large screen touch screen. Which is designed as a console not doing your emails on.

Again with the expectation. Where do people pull theses expectations from when it was not mentioned anywhere?

From Wii U OS, and how terrible the tablet experience is for what is literally marketed as a tablet... I expect nothing at all and neither should anyone else.

For gods sake, all of the social and chat, friends stuff is being farmed off to a smart phone/tablet app. They are flat out saying to use this you need a second device to get full usage... they've cheaped out on hardware, ramped up the price and rushed to market with no games. Chances they've filled it with tablet apps and media features are extremely low.

**** third party game support and very few gmes in 2017, wiiu v 2 on the way. Nintendo be done.

Wii U came out with a bunch of titles like COD, Fifa(at launch, no idea on version though) and Assassin's Creed game, a Batman game, etc. By comparison this is saying that huge third party title in Skyrim, that was made in 2011 that we've talked about for months, that port is still not going to be out for a year. They may as well have said it's far too much trouble for devs to port normal console games over.

I honestly think the third party support in Wii U is going to look fantastic compared to the Switch.

It marketed as a tablet? What ads are you watching?

LIterally every one talking about Wii U said it came with a tablet controller, everyone. Look it's a game pad, and it has a stylus, not a plain old boring gamepad but a second screen. They thought a tablet gamepad was a killer feature, it wasn't.

Go to google and type in "wii u ta" and see what the recommended searches are.

I am talking about the Switch!

Can you stay on topic please?

Could you possibly act a little less butthurt over everyone being honest about the Switch please?

People were asking about it's smart/tablet like features. I posted in response saying considering the Wii U tablet was a dire tablet, and that Switch is already being pushed as basically requiring a second device for features you'd expect on a device that had smartphone/app like functionality, that chances of any media/app like facilities on the Switch were nearly non existent.

It was also clear as day that the sentence I wrote about being marketed as a tablet was in reference to the Wii U. Nintendo's history in providing 'tablet' like features is entirely relevant when discussing what their new console might support.

Nintendo didn't sort any of their past **** ups with this joke of a wii u style presentation. It felt like a repackaged Wii U. Nintendo never learns. All the casuals out there the ones Nintendo need to make the switch a success have basically been presented with the wii u 2, they will ignore the switch.

And nintendohh are now charging for online, they so done.

Breath of the Wild looks amazing.

The Switch looks like a decent idea.

But I think Nintendo have got themselves in a mess. Breath of the Wild is the sort of game people have been asking for. But it'll have cost a bomb and taken years to make. With barely any third party support, they can't make many games like that without leaving their console unsupported. So they have to churn out cheaper games instead. While fun and of decent quality, these games aren't doing anything to attract people to their platform. At £279, not many will buy a Switch just for Zelda, no matter how good the game is.

It's something on a Catch 22 situation, and why I suspect their ultimate destiny is to become a developer and publisher like Sega. I'm not sure there's any other way out of the slow decline.

The real shame here is there'll be no Shield Tablet 2 which would have been infinitely more useful!

Seriously Nintendo just stop making consoles and release your games on PS4, XBone and PC etc. And watch the money pour in without the bother of hardware development.

Here is the real usp for me. I seem to be one of the few social gaming adults and Nintendo platforms are the only ones that support me being able to play with my friends in person.

The Wii u is great for this, I've had many non gamers come to mine just for some Mario kart.

People moaning about thia being a 2nf Wii u failure, is weird. I bet most haven't owned one. One of the best consoles I've owned. The 1st party line up was awesome. Bring on more. I'm ordering, just for big screen 1st party on the go. I'm happy with a portable Wii u.

Let me break it down for you, slowly.

The thing no one seems to care about yet is, how will the Switch perform as a tablet and what is the underlying OS?

For me that point could make or break it.

This is their First Look video, as in the marketing material that we have all seen.

I am talking about the Switch, no one knows anything how this will function as a tablet...clearly it is not an area they are pushing, so if you have high expectations for that, that is in your own head and not put there by Nintendo. No one here has their hands on one yet so who knows how good the OS is to navigate. Yes, the Wii U OS is crap, utter garbage but then again, who gives a damn, clearly they are not pushing the tablet idea this time so any expectation of that is not of Nintendo's doing.

SEriously, go read my initial reply again. I'm saying precisely because the Wii U OS, for a device pushed somewhat as a tablet, was already so bad and because they are saying most features you'd expect for social/multiplayer stuff is being told you need a second smart device for, there is almost no chance of such functionality directly on the Switch.

I have no idea how you've missed that because that is clearly what I was saying.

If the Switch could use smart features why on earth would they tell you such features would be on a second device you have to provide.

I wouldn't know, I try not to guess an experience without having experienced it.

I hope this fails massively and Nintendo start to release games for the PS4 (or PS5).

They have no need to make their own console, it's just vanity. Unfortunately a lot of Japanese companies are suffering from inflexible management and are loosing against more dynamic competitors. And this is just another example.

I'm quite sure they'd sell more games on the PS4 platform than they will on their own & make more money. The loss not getting revenue from the small number of 3rd party game sales would be more than made up by the extra sales of their own games IMO. And wipe the large financial risks of releasing hardware.

I'm pretty sure having Nintendo games on the PS4 would increase it's user base by a considerable %, maybe as much as 20-33%?

They can still continue with handheld devices where they still have a strong foothold, with mobile phone the biggest competitors rather than other dedicated handhelds.

But I suspect they may only see the light when it's too late. :/
